Travelling to Italy the day before yesterday, our train seemed to crawl at little more than walking pace from leaving Monaco-Monte Carlo station until just before Rocquebrune-Cap Martin. Does anyone know the reason for this severe speed restriction - covering several kilometres - and what the permitted speed is? I couldn't see any temporary speed restriction indicators on the 'Up' line, so perhaps it's connected to an unstable hillside or cliffs? In spite of this, we were only two minutes late arriving in Ventimiglia....so it must be sufficiently long-term to have been built-in to the timetable.
