Apparently if it runs it (150270) should be heading from Neville Hill back to Newton Heath later today as 5N32 operated by Rail Operations Group.

Thanks, as always, to DD for his regular updates. Any news on when 156401 (came back from Wolverton C6 four weeks ago now!) might be ready for service? Also noted that 156420 (C6, came back in January) has managed all of about three and a half days service this month, before returning back to the Newton Heath care home! The other two Porterbrook recently C6'd 156's, 452 and 466 are giving excellent service to those of us who pray that our morning / evening commuter trains aren't short formed!

156401 has got a few issues ex-works so is still being worked on. I'd say about two weeks before it turns back out. 156420 I'm not sure about, not been involved in those conversations, but it's not a well unit since it came back.

150001 was supposed to return on the 7th but that's now been knocked on the head again.

The incidents with 420 I am familiar with after it's arrival back were engine related. On the second failure there was a hole in either the gear box or the bottom of the engine. I don't know if it was due to the amount of time sat around at Wolverton. It does seem to be problem some times after refurbishment!

Thank you! I've encountered 420 three times this year. First time, the 57 car, 4 of 4, got locked out by the guard when the door control panel decided to cease to function. Then it shut down anyway. Second time, again the 57 car, 2 of 4, dead and locked OOU. Third time running solo, OK except it had a centre door on the 57 car marked as OOU, except it wasn't as it opened from the inside and wasn't locked! The 57 car was dumped at HT a while ago IIRC whilst the 52 car went to Brodies for gangway repair work. Presumably in this scenario Northern aren't paying Porterbrook any leasing fees for the thing until it works properly. Tonight, of the three 4 car formations that come off NH for peak hour trains, two of them are 2 vice 4! Massive respect to everyone trying to keep these almost 40 year old trains going! It is clearly getting more and more difficult judging by the number of 2 vice 4 short forms even after five diagrams were changed to be one unit permanently, not two!!
