Will GBR have a loyalty scheme? What form might it take?

The main IC operators all I think have some sort of loyalty scheme, e.g. Club Avanti, and the European operators do too.

Will GBR have a national scheme? Is anything already out about this, or what might be the options?

It sounds like yet another idea which favours passengers who are already predisposed to rail travel to spend less on their travel rather than one which widens the customer base. The latter is what the railway and economy needs, not the former.

There are existing loyalty schemes run by the operating companies with various objectives. Some sort of continuation of those will make sense, but the return is likely to be greatest for those making full fare travel.

These things always come down to a marketing decision about who needs to be kept happy and incentivised, what additional business is going to emerge, and how can cannibalisation of existing revenue be avoided.

It will definitely have one, for the same reason most businesses have one - to gather data.

The obvious thing is to do a points-based system, although there's almost limitless variations about how it might be implemented.

The Germans have a good one, where I think an annual season ticket gives nationwide travel (unless I'm mistaken).

That would be good !

It's not going to have a retail monopoly.
There is a clear possibility that that position changes, despite what has been said so far. Some will not be content until there is no private profit being extracted from the railway, as some of the rhetoric in today's speech by the Transport Secretary alludes to.

Not in the medium term. The Railways Bill is going to create a statutory requirement for GBR to support a fair and open retail market. There won't be another Railways Bill this Parliament.

Not yet heard the speech which you mention but will that also apply to the rolling stock leasing co's? Must be considerable private profit being extracted from the railway via these entities?

As far as I know, that's the case for the BahnCard 100 (~£4000 for standard class, £7000 for first class) but no extra validity, including as far as I can tell the D-Ticket, for line-specific season tickets, IC(E) or not, of any duration.

Still seems like decent value to me !
