There has been mention of them having a potential training academy at Euston to go alongside Polmadie and Crewe, but until now I didn't quite know if they were going any further with it. But recently there were some driver mentor and trainer vacancies on Avanti's site, so anyone waiting for a DMI or talent bank call might not need to wait much longer if they get a new training site opened for the purpose of training more drivers at a time.

Unless management for whatever reason decides to instruct recruitment to sit on their hands and wait for the transition (highly unlikely) it's probably not going to have any effect.
I would disagree. You will now be faced with a situation where every LNWR driver at Euston, Crewe etc etc will be allowed a "free transfer" to the intercity side, in much the same way as happened when Great Western was merged 20 odd years ago. You will soon get long internal waiting lists for Liverpool, Wolverhampton, Euston and probably Preston (I'd guess Glasgow and Edinburgh less so). I'd be very surprised going forward if anyone from outside LNWR gets taken on by Avanti (qualified and trainee wise) for a very long time. I guess the "way in" now would be applying for the LNWR depots and then joining the internal waiting list if west coast intercity is what the candidates heart is set on.
They last ran trainee train driver recruitment for Euston in March of this year.
