If you are tempted by one of the Flexi passes, check prices first. Because the price reduction on the continuous passes is 50%, and the Flexi passes is only 15%, a continuous pass for a longer period can work out cheaper than a limited validity Flexi pass.

Looking at a first class pass. 15 days in a row is £457 but a month is £393. Although my holiday is only two weeks long I would appear to be better of buying a month even though I won't use half of it. Very strange way to run it.

The monthly even offers a saving over 10 days flexi.

Strange maybe but dipping in and out has to be the way to go on the 1,2,3 month passes. I'll be getting a 3 month paper pass

Plus the traditional inter-rail trip for students in the 80s was a month, so maybe they're trying to re-attract that customer-base again?

I think it's just that the shorter Flexi Passes are the most popular and they don't want to cannibalise revenue from those too much.

I bought a 10 days in 2 months pass before the sale. Not activated it but used the pass number to buy a Eurostar reservation and a SNCF reservation.

Does anyone have any thoughts on if I should get the pass refunded in order to buy (probably a different) pass at the cheaper price?

Your reservation will still be valid, if that's the question?

After that, it's up to you. Is the saving worth swapping your refundable pass for a non-refundable one?

I suspect quite a lot of people would have considered the pricing anomaly and traded up. My default pass has been the 15 days in 2 months one, and I just got myself a 3-month continuous.

50%! The urge to escape the job hunt for a few months and burn even more savings is strong right now...especially looking at the great weather in Europe. Shame accommodation is so pricey these days

Must. resist.

Many thanks as always - that was the question because, indeed, it will be cheaper. But only 15% cheaper.

Can you confirm, its valid 11 months from the date of purchase. If so I will purchase a one month pass this week for use next year.

Let me rephrase: the first day of validity can be up to 11 months after the purchase date. You get the normal validity period after that.

Though every time you dip in and out of continental Europe there are extra charges which reduce the value of it a lot. There's the €30+ eurostar reservation fee (needs prebooking a few weeks in advance for busy trains), or the Dutchflyer overnight cabin fee (usually over £100), or the cost of a hotel night in Cherbourg/Dieppe. Alternatively you could fly in/out on a budget airline but again, that's not without its extra fees. For e.g. 3 trips to Europe on a 3-month pass it adds up.

Right, but the longest available pass, for 3 months, is currently cheaper than two of the shortest available passes, "4 days in 1 month".

The latter option would give a GB resident 2 more days where the pass may be used in GB, so possibly cheaper for someone making two very short trips where they would use Eurostar (or perhaps an expensive domestic service).

But anyone else who plans to make at least 2 trips, is highly likely to save more by getting the 3 month continuous, if they can fit both trips into that period.

If I still lived in the UK, I would be seriously considering getting three 3 month continuous passes and then being able to go almost whenever I want for however long I want for the next year.

I'm currently debating whether to get the 1 month continuous for €452 (1st class) just to use on my upcoming trip back to the UK.

I probably only have 5 days of long distance train travel, but for €32 extra over the 7 day flexi and €100 over the 5 day flexi, it may be worth it just in case I end up doing 6 days, and the €32 would then cover £27 of "commuter" trips.

Oh the promo continuous passes are still very good value. Besides the inability to refund after 1 week (which can be risky if life gets in the way) they're still certainly the best ones to go for if you're planning a lot of intercity travel on the continent.

I was just attempting to point out that the surprisingly low headline fare is never the full story, it's often only about 70-80% of the full travel cost if you take a lot of compulsory reservation services, of which at least 2 are required between the UK and most places. Then add in any flight costs (if you don't want to backtrack 1-3 days back across Europe) and hotels (rarely under £80/night in most busier cities these days) and the idea of flexibly hopping around Europe whenever you have a week or two off becomes a bit of a drain on the finances.

There seems to be some confusion about when the sale ends.

There are references to both 30 September and 1 October, although the time (1000CET/0900BST) seems to be consistent.

Does anyone know the authoritative position?

For anyone desperate to secure the extra days validity, but unsure, they could buy on 30 September, and then buy again and refund the next day if sale still on, but seems silly for such a basic piece of information!

Many thanks - even on Interrail's own site, and more prominently than your reference, it says 'Ends 30 September'!
The launch on the morning of day 1 didn't go smoothly on a technical level, so I think the extra day was agreed after this which is very fair.

In my experience, Interrail themselves always put a promo sale live on their website around 10 CET. Most resellers start earlier or even at midnight.
