Is Sundays Waverley going to be a 37? TIA
Why?The West Somerset Steam Express is now to be hauled by class 47s
No steam available - 34028 was not rostered for this one. Why?
Precisely. No steam ban anymore. What was originally planned? Presumably not Tangmere. Even RTC don't market a 'West Somerset Steam Express' without some idea what availability was likely to be.
I would have thought maybe a black 5 or a vacuum braked loco, provided the mk1s were backWhat was originally planned? Presumably not Tangmere. Even RTC don't market a 'West Somerset Steam Express' without some idea what availability was likely to be.
Not sure WCR have any vacuum braked stock cleared for public passenger compliance, but there is a rumour that a Mk1 FO has been spotted at Carnforth with "Tyseley like" CDL indicators. Perhaps WCR have at long last realised they can spend some money to earn money.I would have thought maybe a black 5 or a vacuum braked loco, provided the mk1s were back
I do hope mk1s are at least back for next year so the crisis can endNot sure WCR have any vacuum braked stock cleared for public passenger compliance, but there is a rumour that a Mk1 FO has been spotted at Carnforth with "Tyseley like" CDL indicators. AIUI Ian Riley has de-airbraked 45212 and handed it back to the K&WVR for a life of preservation, so only has 44871 and 45407 available this year, whilst 45163 undergoes its rebuild.
So WCR's air brake fleet is "Tangmere" and 34028 on hire.
Not sure I would call it a crisis. Think it is just a case of stubbornness personally. The authorities demand standards when carrying fare paying passengers, and other charter operators comply.I do hope mk1s are at least back for next year so the crisis can end
And so based off that if 34028 “wasn’t rostered for this tour” how come it wasn’t changed to diesel hauled weeks, even months ago?Not sure WCR have any vacuum braked stock cleared for public passenger compliance, but there is a rumour that a Mk1 FO has been spotted at Carnforth with "Tyseley like" CDL indicators. Nor would II personally wouldn't book a seat on a steam hauled charter train if I had to ride in a Mk2 air con
With both the Black 5's committed in Scotland and 45212 retired from main line running and returned to the KWVR, what was the plan? Incidentally, with the air braking kit and other main line paraphernalia removed from 45212, how big a job would it be to transfer this to another loco? And so based off that if 34028 “wasn’t rostered for this tour” how come it wasn’t changed to diesel hauled weeks, even months ago?
Perhaps already being fitted to 45163 as it's overhaul progresses. I imagine there is plenty of work to do on it but not difficult stuff - just lots of piping runs along the loco and tender, fittings and all the cab equipment. There will be OTDR and TPWS as well as the brake equipment, but asll that would be going on 45163 anyway. With both the Black 5's committed in Scotland and 45212 retired from main line running and returned to the KWVR, what was the plan? Testing for 48151, maybe into service?34067 “Tangmere” and 48151 working 5M50 and 5M51 Carnforth to Hellifield and back today
Only if either 48151 has an air pump fitted, or enough Mk. 1s at 10A have now had CDL fitted.Testing for 48151, maybe into service?
Not necessarily "37069". Carnforth have outshopped 45110 reasonably recently without air, and I think 44932 similarly prior to that. I am concluding that the owner doesn't like air on his own fleet.Only if either 48151 has an air pump fitted, or enough Mk. 1s at 10A have now had CDL fitted.
It may visit heritage railways if it has no air pump fittedOnly if either 48151 has an air pump fitted, or enough Mk. 1s at 10A have now had CDL fitted.
And could even work private charters on the mainline so long as the passengers aren't members of the public - thinking of the Wedding train to Edinburgh with a JubeIt may visit heritage railways if it has no air pump fitted
I managed to catch Tangmere & Tornado passing at Skipton
