is there any reason why the on board announcements on the 58 don’t say Castle Hill Via Hull City Centre? I went from Hessle to Cottingham last night and it went from Hessle - Hull and then as we approached the interchange, the driver changed it to Hull - Castle Hill.

The joined up service is really useful, but I’ve seen plenty of people struggling to understand the service and would be nice if the announcements and screens showed the route. I can’t remember what the exterior display said

Apologies if its already known but when waiting for "6001" which is obviously not at EY anymore, its ticket machine is always getting used as a spare

Its actually our new friend 20824 NK62 CJJ!

Also, does anyone know whats going on with minibus 20500/21055, i saw it deadrunning after 20824 came on 923, and it had a destination of "North Riding"

Is it going to Scarborough, or seeing how it seemingly has its Procters number on the back again, is it going back to Leeming Bar?

Does anyone know what's up with open-top 20893? Its the only open-top not yet repainted into the new Beachcomber livery and hasn't been used this year so far. Any chance its repainted this year or will it just be left for next year?

Ah thank you. If its not needed now, its likely it won't be needed later this year. Scarborough got by without it over the summer holidays running the 100 hourly and the 99 every 10 minutes. Now the 100 has finished for the summer and the 99 is every 20 minutes so a much lower PVR for Scarborough.

On the topic of Scarborough, any updates on the new depot?

Its tracking in Hessle on the 183 today as 20500 for the first time since June.

20512 has seemingly transferred from Pocklington to Hull and did the 43
20361 is currently near Bridlington after being pushed off the 43 earlier
20363 broke down and has seemingly gone up at Beverley Road to an unknown place earlier and was replaced by 20520 on the 43

And there is a new Spare - With ticket machine tracking, unknown identity as of yet, might be 20834 i don't know though, I'll let you guys know as soon as I do!

Idk why Hull get minibuses, not a single service warrants a mini bus as they are too small, single deckers are small enough

20512 is a  midibus not a minibus. Granted it has a smaller capacity than a full size single decker. Its likely at Hull for maintenance and is being used whilst its there. Happens all the time. Wouldn't surprise me if it goes back to Pocklington or perhaps Scarborough before long.

I'm now eagerly anticipating more information from EY in the next few weeks about these changes...

Wasn't it the Wicstun Express that went from Hull via Brough before then heading up to York? It's an interesting one

I wonder what the route will be

More to the point, I wonder why this service is going to exist
The only bit of the route that seems clear is Hull to Castle Hill - the 56 route hence the X56 number. After that, well it could go up to Beverley and then resume the current X46/X47 route, perhaps using the Skidby bypass or the 26/141 route. Or it could head south for Brough and pick up the old Wicstun Express route.

I wonder if it will be an all day service or just a peaks only service for getting staff to/from the hospital from the East Riding & York? Either way, a very interesting development.

Hessle town service 183 certainly needs minibuses. Some tight roads across its route and is very under utilised.

It's a curious one which will be interesting to see. The Cottingham link makes sense (former X47 limited connection) as does connecting parts of West Hull to Beverley (former 61 connection) and York, opening up a new market. Castle Hill Hospital less so I'd suggest as Market Weighton and Pocklington residents main hospital is York. I also can't see the route serving Brough after Cottingham as it would be very round the houses, but who knows!

As an aside I've seen various buses over the past week showing route 58A in the daytime by mistake which may have caused some confusion.

For people living in Market Weighton, Castle Hill is definitely closer than York (from Pocklington, it's the other way round, but ease of driving may still make Castle Hill a better option for many people than York). Combined with specialist facilities, I can imagine there is a reasonable demand for travel there – especially if there's a direct bus, which obviously isn't the case to York.

Agree that routing this new route down to Brough is unlikely. It would take far too long to be competitive to/from York. The former X47 connection through Cottingham was sort of the route I had in mind, although I think the 56 route between Cottingham & Hull is slightly different to what the X47 used to do as I assume the X56 will take the 56 route between Castle Hill Hospital & Hull.

As @stevieinselby says, the route through Castle Hill Hospital will be attractive as its direct to the hospital unlike in York. It also comes down to specialist units at either hospital. I have some relatives in the East Riding, one went to York Hospital following a fall and the other went to Hull Infirmary to see a leg specialist after breaking their leg. For me, York Hospital was much more convenient to visit as I can cycle in 20 minutes. Luckily, Hull Infirmary is roughly a 13 minute walk from Paragon Interchange should I use the bus or train. I was thankful they weren't sent to Castle Hill as its a trek from Hull or a change onto the 26 or 141 in Beverley from the X46. From November, it will become much more convenient but I didn't know at the time. My point through all of this is that any connection to a hospital is appreciated as when an emergency happens, you don't often have a choice which hospital you end up in! So for people visiting, its great if there's better connections.

Yes the X47 followed the old 105 route to The Lawns then up Harland Way past the High School. I do wonder if the new 105s are meant to be going up to Harland Way as there is certainly time in the timetable and there is a lot of new housing there.

As for hospitals, it can be pot look where you get sent for certain appointments.

Sorry, I meant that historically Market Weighton and Pocklington were part of the Vale of York CCG so NHS funding pathways push patients towards York. As an example, my Auntie is in her 80's and lives in Market Weighton. She was referred for a hand operation and the referral went to York Hospitals NHS Trust. She asked if it could go to Hull Hospitals Trust and was told no as that was the funding pathway. She doesn't drive so it was far from ideal when the ititial appointment was at York Hospital, the operation itself was at Bridlington Hospital and the follow-up appointment was at Scarborough Hospital!

East Riding Council do provide a useful Medibus service which she (an other relatives) have made use of but it has some rather odd rules; for example, it will take people to York Hospital but not Bridlington meaning a service provided by East Riding Council won't take residents to a hospital in the East Riding but will cross the boundary to York!

So, although Castle Hill is nearer, the patient flows are towards York. It's the same with the 141....a direct bus from Bridlington to Castle Hill but mostly carries fresh air south of Beverley. Bridlington residents will be sent to Scarborough/York by the NHS rather than Castle Hill.

On a wider point, it highlights an interesting challenge as the Mayor likely moves towards greater control over buses, possibly franchising. Many parts of the East Riding (Bridlington, Goole, Pocklington/Market Weighton) are not focussed towards Hull for health, education, shopping etc so transport planners have to consider cross-border services which can be tricky.

I know nothing about the X56, but it might be interesting to see if they route it through the Uni campus in Heslington. HYMS is obviously the med school for both Uni of Hull and Uni of York, and a lot of students have placements at Castle Hill

And on the other hand a service from the Grimsby area to Castle Hill would be useful, as most cancer patients from the area are referred there.
Perhaps it would be useful if the East Riding mayor was to talk to his Lincolnshire counterpart?

Any route from Grimsby to Castle Hill Hospital would likely be done by Stagecoach because EY dont operate regular services in Grimsby, only the one BC service there

I would imagine it being an extension of the 250 if so, maybe replacing the 18, although a service from Castle Hill Hospital to Grimsby then Louth would be a bit big, doable but likely resource consuming

No need to. The 46 used to run into York via the University, it was then shortened to only operated between Market Weighton & Holme On Spalding Moor and replaced by the X47, which followed the X46 route directly into York via Hull Road. Anyone wishing to travel to the Campus in Heslington can alight at The Boulevard on Hull Road, walk to Green Dykes Lane around the corner and hop on the U1 at no additional charge because it's part of the Campus Free Travel Zone. It means quicker journeys into York and for those that want the Uni, no additional fares and the U1 operates roughly every 15 minutes during the Semester.

It won't be running via the Heslington Campus. When the 746 and later 46/45 used to run that way it was only the peak journeys that carried anyone from/to there
