Late train causes missed connection?

I am taking a train from Manchester Victoria to Newcastle Upon Tyne next Wednesday and i am wondering what happens if the train to York for my connection is late and causes me to miss the last train?

Can you please advise me on this, as i look after someone as a carer and would not be able to stay over in a hotel until the next train.

It is very unlikely a hotel would be offered. It is likely there would be others travelling north and road transport put on, either a taxi or a coach. This would likely get you to Newcastle significantly later than planned but would get you there that night.

Should it become highly likely or inevitable that you miss the last train due to late running from Manchester then you should speak to the conductor on the train from Manchester at the earliest opportunity and they may be able to arrange a hold of the last train, or at least their control would be able to start sourcing road transport earlier. If your train is formed of 2 sets you should ensure you are in the rear one to speak to the conductor, and watch out for where they are located.

What's your itinerary? Can you take an earlier train from Manchester?

The last valid itinerary is 2202 from MCV, connecting into the 0016; presumably this is what you are looking at booking?

If you can depart 24min earlier, you can get a direct train at 2138 (and if you can depart 39min earlier, a cheaper fare and a 20min connection at Leeds)

It's likely they would provide taxi rather than a hotel; I doubt you'd be the only person for the last connection, and so taxis shared between multiple passengers would possibly be cheaper than hotels anyway.

It appears to be 00.16 on Real Time Trains.

There is an arrival from Manchester at 23.48 to connect with this, but that continues to Newcastle anyway. It would be helpful if you post your itinerary and what tickets you hold?
