Is/are there any websites/sources for Timetables?

It is all very well using this forums journey planner, or any other website planner, but if you want to look at possibilities, or variations on a journey, the rail planners aren't much use.

I mean timetables in the traditional sense, as published by the old BR as the national timetable?

If you want "proper" timetables, that's the place, still based on the classic old British Rail format, in pdf format for each table. You can download the whole lot in one go (87 mb zip file), but the index doesn't any longer come down with it. Every year they seem to leave something out; the pdfs used to be usefully named with the route name as well as just the number, that was forgotten this year. The production has been contracted out, and if you remember the old table numbers there's some correlation, but not always. As I understand it there's constant pressure at Network Rail to give them up each year, based on cost (presumably minimal), and presumably there will be another fight to keep them with GBR.

It's all very reminiscent of accusations from the Beeching era of rail services progressively badly run in the run up to closure proposals.

I believe the modern corporate-speak for this process is "sunsetting a product".

Well yes. But instead of glancing down the table list and seeing what they are directly, you have to open the table index, see the one you want, remember the number, open another folder, find that table number ... which is not how it was done last year.

You really don't. I just downloaded the ZIP file, extracted it to one folder, opened the Table Directory. Each number hyperlinks to the relevant document, so you just click it, your PDF viewer finds the relevant file and opens it. No manual browsing around needed.
