No. From what I can see the prototypes were renumbered in 1974. (Happy to be proved wrong though!)

.....because yes, exactly this - the complete unit was briefly considered a DMU and renumbered accordingly

The annoying thing is I was reminded of something the other day and thought that'd make a good question for here and now I can't remember what it was! So alternative question off of the top of my head that has a slight tricky component:

Of the lines that are or were part of Great Britain's 'Mainline' Rail Network (so no trams, tube lines, etc) which have had ETCS (European Train Control System) fitted, even if not in regular service?

In the event no one gets them all, the one with the most in a few days can have it.

The Thameslink core from north of St Pancras Thameslink (on both MML and ECML branches) to east of London Bridge (towards the Brighton Line) and south of Blackfriars (towards Elephant & Castle)

Part of the down line (I think) of the Hertford Loop as a test track, from a little south of Watton at Stone towards Langley Junction.

And part of the Old Dalby test track was fitted with an early form of ETCS for testing of the ill-fated West Coast TCS, many moons ago.

There was a plan to fit HS1 with ETCS and I think the French have a cunning way to do that which allows TVM-only trains to operate as well, but of course it hasn't happened like most things ETCS in UK to be honest.

Liz Line isn't ETCS through the core, but the trains are fitted with it for services to Heathrow - and one day maybe GWML to Reading. There is a whole story about that, but that's definitely worth a thread on its own.

HS2 for sure although they are busy backtracking on all the advanced features - fortunately the ORR won't allow MAS with AWS/TPWS for trains running that fast.

Sticking with the ETCS/TCS theme, there were two test trains used at Old Dalby to demonstrate the West Coast TCS concept in 2001/2 in parallel with conversion of the line to a Pendolino test track. What class were they converted from?
