Lothian group (Network/Route Speculation)

The 32 was a gamble when first launched but it goes to show that sometimes results happen.

I’d like to see more ‘orbital’ services like the 17/18 and now 32, which could be a cause to run a service down Seafield Road East to Fort Kinnaird or the Jewel.

I don't see them extending one of the existing services, the 18 is already unreliable as it is these days and each change sees more and more cuts to the service, the 17 is a possibility, maybe even further down to Eastfield, but i would honestly see them do a new service instead of tampering with an existing one.

Maybe something like

42 West Granton - Fort Kinnaird
Via West Granton Road, Granton Square, Newhaven, The Shore, Salamander Street, Seafield Road East, Portobello, Eastfield, Brunstane, The Jewel.

Co-ordinate it with the 32 for easy connections, folk can connect with the 18 at Fort Kinnaird to the Gyle and boom, You've got yourself a full circle around the city!

Its been 25 or 23 years since the ‘orbital’ services" routes were all killed off. It was claimed it was to stop the buses running late and to give more choice to the Gyle and ERI. Plus a man in charge hating them.

Made this mock orbital map including the 18, extended 32 and my mock 42 route, (tweaked it so it ran via Junction Street and Duke Street) was tempted to run it into Ocean Terminal but didn't see a point.

If you’re talking about continuous circular routes then he was absolutely right to hate them. These type of routes have no resilience and were an absolute pain to regulate especially if sets of temporary traffic lights popped up along the route.

If I had my way I’d reroute the 17 along Craig’s Road heading along past Turnhouse golf course. Would benefit by missing out Gogar and Drum Brae since both can be a nightmare. Plus going past the new builds at West Craigs and Craigmount High school is a win.
The 17 doesn’t need to go down to Drum Brae/Glasgow Road since that area is already covered by the 1, 21, 26 and 100 for the airport.

Another way of giving it more of an orbital route.

If I had my way I’d reroute the 17 along Craig’s Road heading along past Turnhouse golf course. Would benefit by missing out Gogar and Drum Brae since both can be a nightmare. Plus going past the new builds at West Craigs and Craigmount High school is a win.
The 17 doesn’t need to go down to Drum Brae/Glasgow Road since that area is already covered by the 1, 21, 26 and 100 for the airport.

Another way of giving it more of an orbital route.

I think with the way the 31 and 32 are going to eventually serve West Craig's the question that comes to mind is, will there be any other service coming this way?

If I was gonna change about the 17, it would be to have it run via Drum Brae North, but I guess the demand is not so high in that area otherwise Lothian would of done that by now.

I'm still holding out for an enhanced 32 further down the line, if this extension to West Granton proves popular than who knows.

Can’t argue with that too much. Though my thoughts are with the recent incidents on Glasgow Road it would be good to see an airport bus not rely on that route at all.
Plus to have a door to door bus from the airport would be a bonus! Though if the bridge over the railway ever gets built the walk to the train stop will possibly be cut in half.

My hope is that the 32 gets a half hourly and Sunday service. It definitely has the potential and each time I’ve seen it, it has been pretty busy.

How would the 17 get from Turnhouse to the Airport without going through the Gogar Roundabout?
