Further to fleet updates, a minor one has seen E200 20381 move from Bridlington to Hull

And on the subject of E200s, why do 4 of them still have the 58 route branding despite them no longer doing the 58 for the most part, and also now being outdated, because of the extension it received to Cottingham? Seems a bit outdated and confusing when they're doing every other route but the 58, although thats our EY these days I guess!

Pictures of 20381 to make this post a bit more appealing

Interesting to note that the 82/83/84 have been registered by Procters given that they now operate 2 out of 3 duties on the services.

They also don't mention that they pass through North Yorkshire.

That explains them missing the funding bit then. So they make two attempts at it and get neither right, no doubt spending more time on stupid vehicle renumberings.

Oh and what a surprise from this shambles of a division, Bus open data hasn't been updated either to reflect this update (or indeed ANY of the August changes made to Go Ahead West Yorkshire or Dales and District operations) ...... Oh how I live for the day that operators start taking the law seriously and incompetent staff start getting sacked for their lack of care for the law.

EY Enthusiasts reports that ex-Hybrid E400s 20907 & 20908 have been relicensed.
They also don't mention that they pass through North Yorkshire.
That makes sense as to why it shows as not financially supported then.

There's also an error with the data on the X47. The 17:40 journey from York on a Saturday is timetabled to run to Pocklington via Hodsow Lane and via Barmby Moor! Of course, it runs only via Barmby Moor like all other X47s (as well as the X45) as its the only X46 that runs into Pocklington via Hodsow Lane and West Green. It's also the only X47 to be timetabled to stop at Waggon & Horses on its journey towards Hull.

Not been great today for EY on DalesBus. A police incident in the Ripon area prevented the bus from entering Ripon by its usual route, so a lengthy diversion resulted in a roughly 50 minute delay once leaving Ripon. The bus in question (E400 MMC - 20925) then broke down in Pateley Bridge, engineers attended and the bus is now arriving into Grassington just over 2 hours late. Fingers crossed for no further issues today.

Not helped by the driver taking the wrong turning at Dishforth

Quite. Looks like the driver is taking a 2 hour break in Grassington now so the bus can leave on time for its 16:00 return trip to Pocklington. Hopefully no issues arise.

I know that the Ripon diversion was outwith their control but it's still a breakdown at Fellbeck/Pateley.
That's the second consecutive Sunday.

Probably good job the driver did go wrong at Dishforth as otherwise it would have possibly expired somewhere on Greenhow Hill and most likely at a location where overtaking the broken bus was very awkward. Still they have next week to make up or will Dalebus have further grounds to think of awarding the 822 (not from Pocklington) to someone else. Pretty poor that Procters did not fill in on any of missing short workings

A benefit to running the 822 from Pocklington is that it runs down Hull Road, which is quite a popular catchment area for the service. Some people do catch the service from Pocklington, but I believe that Hull Road generates more users. For DalesBus, that is an attraction to having the 822 start in Pocklington. Although it wouldn't surprise me if Transdev wanted to expand their DalesBus portfolio from York.

By the time Procters would've sent a bus down to the 822, they likely would've only been able to fill in the Ripon-Fountains Abbey return journey and the 14:40 from Ripon to Grassington. With the 12:00 from Grassington to Ripon not operating, the 14:40 return would likely be carting fresh air through Nidderdale. At the end of the day, it likely wasn't considered worth it to have a bus running empty to fill in for what are usually quite quiet services.

Yes, the Moorsbus service that was run from Pocklington a few years ago also generated passengers from there. At least the M1 got back to Hull on time today despite being one of the dodgy MMC's, so miracles can happen.

To be fair, one of the perils of running buses into very remote locations like the Dales and Moors is that there will never be a depot on the doorstep so recovering from a breakdown will take time. That said, I remember breaking down on an X46 a couple of years ago right outside Pocklington depot and we had to sit and wait for the next bus to arrive from Hull to rescue us, so maybe contingency plans could be better.

I can see why people are put off using these services if they have to take a connecting bus home; there's a very real risk of arriving back late enough to have missed the last bus home. My Mum sadly no longer uses Moorsbus as she lives in Pocklington and whether she goes back home via either Beverley or York she'd be stuck if either bus ran more than 40ish mins late. At least the 822 would get her back to Pocklington eventually.

I know being a long way from the depot means the the impact of any problem is going to be greater, but Moorsbus and Dalesbus do feel like they cop way more than their fair share of breakdowns – and it does seem to be predominantly East Yorkshire who are responsible for them, with both the E400MMCs and EvoSetis both having really poor reliability. While it would be a shame to lose them from Dalesbus, at the moment I would have serious reservations about contracting them for next year.

Or alternatively they could ban the use of certain bodies, I'm sure a Gemini 1 or Gemini 2 would do good, they usually are good at anything but its not the greatest look if you want a modern image, but its at least going to run and thats what's important imo

I don't think three breakdowns in a year (so far) would be enough for DalesBus to be reconsidering the contract. Especially when you look at the constant breakdowns EY had on Moorsbus last year and they were contracted again this year (and seem to be doing much better in reliability terms so far, although the operation out of Compass Royston on Moorsbus this year has also suffered reliability issues primarily with B8RLE Evolutions.)

DalesBus could always specify the use of a B9TL on the 822 if they wanted to, like Moorsbus has for the M1 & M3 with E400 MMC 97 & B5TL 96. Transdev only uses B9TLs on the 875 (although a B5TL has appeared once this year).

Is it only 3? It feels like more ... maybe some of the problems have been the inevitable road closures when drivers/riders' skill level is not as high as they think, there have definitely been a lot more than 3 days when the 822 has suffered serious disruption, but maybe they weren't all the operator's fault
But even so, with one bus running on 27 service days this year, to have 3 breakdowns is a failure rate of 11% – that is shockingly high.

20812 broke down on 31 May, 20808 broke down on 6 September and 20925 broke down on 13 September. As far as I know, these are the only breakdowns to have occurred on the 822 in 2026 so far.

There have been several factors outside of EY's control that have led to disruption. The situation on DalesBus this year with EY is nowhere near as bad as it was with Moorsbus last year.

Yes its actually with Procters and has gained a private reg - USU 365.

(Not my photo, credit to original photographer)

This seems to be in all day service on the 73 - can’t remember the last time there was a double decker in regular service in Northallerton! A nice change.

There have been some changes to the 73 for the new school term, and Bedale School have been heavily promoting the 0745 journey from Northallerton as they try and attract pupils away from Northallerton School (which has a mixed reputation)

Saw 371 getting towed away down the M62 out of Hull today, is this the end of the road for it at EY or will it likely been taken away to be repaired?

There have been no breakdowns on the M1/M3 this year - there has been a power steering failure though the vehicle was still drivable to get home to Hull, a few overheating engines during the heatwave which meant stopping to cool down and parking in the shade at Pickering and 97 decided to lose the left mirror a few weeks ago... But so far, and with only four to go, no breakdowns

Thats good to hear that there have been no breakdowns, fingers crossed for the next 4 runs.

Last year, DalesBus out of Pocklington was very reliable. There was just the one breakdown on May Day Bank Holiday (involving B9TL 20773). The Moorsbus operation out of Pocklington last year (M5 & M8 on Sundays & Bank Holidays) had no breakdowns as well.

Maybe its a time share basis - each depot is allocated a bad year... Next year is Elloughton's turn

Edit: Whats the condition of 97? I'm led to understand that it had some kind of fault

Pocklington has had a spat of unreliability, particularly earlier this year when the York-Ripon services were having issues with breakdowns nearly daily. Scarborough has had some issues with reliability and cancellations on Coaster due to lack of available buses recently. Compass Royston has had issues on Moorsbus as well with breakdowns this year.
