Fee free amendments to advance tickets

I notice that railsmartr and uber offer free amendments, but with the restriction that it has to be the same train operator.

Can anyone suggest any retailer offering same day changes without this restriction? (thanks to @Alex-B for earlier posts on this)

The forum site will change combinations of tickets between the same origin and destination, but where you take a totally different route than the original booking. So you can't excess it away but you can refund and rebook.

RDG have accredited multiple systems which allow a different TOC or route code when an Advance ticket is changed through the "refund and rebook" procedure. They seem perfectly happy with that principle.

Agreed. An excess is different, as the original fare cannot be re-allocated in LENNON.

That said, the fact the original fare cannot be re-allocated in LENNON doesn't stop change of geographical route excesses being valid on an operator that received none of the original revenue (e.g. Leamington to London route via Banbury being excessed to Any Permitted for use on WMT+Avanti), so it's not universally applied, but I think we just have to accept they are not going to budge on that, and to some extent, that's understandable.

So what @DeverseSam is asking for is a site that lets you refund and rebook and does not charge a fee for doing so. I am not sure if such a site exists?

You could use the forum site, in the knowledge that the fee goes towards paying the salaries of genuinely UK based (not outsourced) staff, many of whom are on this forum! This is in stark contrast to the likes of Uber who do a lot of outsourcing.

Railsmartr may be cheaper to change advances, but it won't let you do what you describe in the opening post and I don't think their splits are as good as ours, either.

As an example, Southampton to Newcastle at 0755 tomorrow on a direct train costing £122.34 on trainsplit. (Railsmartr charging £191.20 but allowing the same seat throughout)

Let’s say I get delayed on the bus getting to the station and realise at 0745 I need to travel a bit later and want to amend the ticket to a £113.50 Super Off Peak Single via London.

Can Trainsplit do that if I pay the £5 fee? (Most retailers presumably would restrict me to amending to a CrossCountry train?)

Yes, you can change to a flexible ticket, provided the origin, destination and passenger details stay the same. But it won't make the booking refundable, the non-refundability will be maintained from the original Advance booking.
