I'm flying from Luton soon for a short Friday to Monday trip. I've been looking at parking at one the MML stations and catching a Thameslink service to Luton Airport Parkway and then the DART to the airport. I've been looking at parking at Flitwick, is that a good idea for the weekend or could anyone suggest anywhere better?

For a weekend trip the parking is suprisingly affordable overnight: https://www.apcoa.co.uk/find-parking/locations/flitwick/flitwick-station-flitwick
For a weekend trip, park at Luton Airport Parkway station, and save yourself the train fare from Flitwick. It will be £22.80 if you arrive after 1700 Friday, £30.40 if you arrive before 1700. Plus £4.90 e/w for the DART. Far cheaper than official airport parking. Also a damn sight easier to get to off the M1 than Flitwick.
I agree with Luton Airport Parkway. My go-to parking option when I'm flying out of Luton for a short break.
If you do want soewhere further north then I'd go for Harlington - very close to J12 and much easier to get to than Flitwick.

You will probably need to ask to be let through the barriers at the main entrance, and again at the DART side exit, to access the DART.

I have tapped in and out of the rail barriers with my credit card and then used the same one on the Dart. So that could be an option for anyone going the parkway.

Has never happened to me yet. I think at that station it probably is common. Just like Welwyn Garden City where a platform change / cancellation means you need to do the same. The only other time I have tapped in / out is go to station, services is badly disrupted and then give up and go home. Never had a charge for entry / exit at the same station. Could be because in most cases it is entry / exit / entry
