Overhead door lights of CAF Civity.

On a class 195, the lights stay on (on both sides) even when all of the doors are locked.

On a Class 196 and 197, the lights only turn on if the side of the doors are unlocked (the side where the platform is), it is usually not on when the doors are locked.

What does that mean Class 195 likes to always leave on that class 197s occasionally turns on/off when at the side of the platform. Is it something to do with operator conditions?

NOTE: Class 195 interior is identical to that on class 331 so I said this as ‘class 195’ for above only.

I presume you mean the red light above the door inside the train. It means the door has a power supply (same as the 397 for instance) but I wouldn't know why the 196 and 197 is set up differently.

Each door has its own independent computer system which, besides operating the door motor and passenger door controls, switches the area illumination on and off. The software configuration for area illumination is entirely down to owner/operator preference, however convention ought to dictate that the lighting is not turned on for a door that is not enabled or locked out of use.

I've noticed this. It appears to be the only class where the spotlights above the doors are illuminated all the time rather than only when that door is released.

I think Flirts do it as well. I was on a 755 the other week and was quite surprised when it started moving with the door illumination still on.
