TfW Class 67+Mk4 sets: trip planning/experiences, diagram updates etc

The 0543 from Swansea has been a 150 all this week, and cancelled outright once. The connection to the MkIV stock at Cardiff central looks very tight, changing from 3 or 0 to 1. Any ideas if the MkIV is held for the connection, or when this will go back to being a MkIV throughout?

Looking at real time trains they allow 25 minutes from Bridgend to Cardiff so the usual scenario of terminating trains having padding to absorb delays at their final destination. But one day it arrived 6 minutes early so the Manchester connection would have had plenty of time even if it didn't on paper based on the timetable timings

Even a 150 can manage Bridgend to Cardiff in just under 20 minutes.

I doubt they would hold it if it wasn't a valid connection. Which makes it pointless really running a sprinter over to Swansea ECS in the first place. It should leave earlier to maintain the connection or not bother at all and tell people just to connect from the GWR.

I believe it is because the ECS goes goes via the Vale of Glamorgan line which MK4 are not cleared for.

Saying that at Swansea yesterday they holding a Milford haven service for a late running GWR. They announced a few times over the tannoy that the train was ready to leave after the GWR arrived. But perhaps that's different as connecting into a two hourly service rather than hourly and it should have been a valid connection.

Swansea is very good at holding connections, but I guess has the luxury of the lines west of here being fairly quiet. I’m going to Glasgow in a few weeks on an advance which assumes the MkIV is running throughout, I guess I’m best placed to arrive in time to catch the preceding GWR, and if there’s a 67 thundering away in the station catch that, and if there isn’t, take the GWR and change at Cardiff.

Yes and the train in question on Saturday - 1845 Swansea to Milford - there was nothing else going West for over an hour which would have meant arranging quite a bit of road transport.

Yes I would do that although technically with an advance ticket you are meant to take the next available train and would likely end up on the next Manchester service an hour later with delay repay. Of course this would then be booked for a 197 not a MK4.

personally arrive in time for the gwr, if the tfw is there take it if not buy a single to cardiff and then connect

Yeah, it is. V33 diagram is forming W59/V50. The unit diagram is 1W11/1V37/1W61/1V62. Not sure for how long this is applying for though

Ta. To be honest, I may just reschedule for next week instead in the hope that W61 is a Mk4, that way I won't have to pay any additional fees to exchange. If anyone does know if a Mk4 is booked for W61 next week, that would be really helpful.
