Do you have a passing interest in trucks/HGVs?

Sadly, I'm going to miss an interesting crane / hgv episode later this week as I shall be back at the workshop.

A couple of 5 compartment wooden [NER] carriages are being extracted from a site with very limited access. As the guy said, they got there, I can get them out again.

Hopefully, I might get some images of the action.
No images as yet, but the carriages got out and went on their travels to temporary storage.

I'm no expert, but I'm not sure it should look like that!
photo shows a concrete mixer with it's drum about to fall off.

edited to add that this is not my photo and has come from Mickey King onTikTok.

Water pipeline construction in our locality, requires a big entrance for the Tunnel Boring Machine. This beauty arrived this afternoon, ready to dig...
Yes, that's definitely a well looked-after 'beauty'.

Having seen plenty of them on my trips to the USA, a bonneted six-wheeler with it's chrome reflecting the sun definitely has a certain 'presence' in your rear-view mirror... :)

Oh, I am a sucker for a 1970s - 1980s era "classic" Kenworth, Mack or Peterbilt. I have driven in FL, OK, WA, TX, NM + CO; I have seen some really stunning examples.
Other makes - Freightliner springs to mind - seem to lack the road-presence.

The International I photo'd, locally in south Hampshire, had to negotiate some very tight residential roads and parked cars...

Oh, I went to Whitby Steam Rally on 1st August 2026 - and was slightly surprised at how many "Commercials" were lined up, a lotv more than I imagined would be entered.

I did take a few images - they'll be here:- https://www.ipernity.com/doc/312383/album/1390484
when I've sorted them out with titles / captions etc. I mostly look at the older vehicles.
Can't remember off-hand whether I took an individual shot of the Peterbilt that was there.

That’s funny. I was passing Dawlish Warren on the train earlier and the grotty fair had a Foden parked up with a generator behind the cab.

You definitely don’t see many around these days.

Foden, ERF, Seddon Atkinson. They all seem to be "blink and missed it" marques.
When I first started to take an interest in trucks (in the late 1960s probably), they were commonplace marques, and you could add AEC, Albion, Scammell, Commer and Bedford at least to the list.

(I'm currently on a trip to the land of Peterbilts, Kenworths and Macks, being serenaded by 7FDLs, EVOs and 710s flexing their considerable muscle... :))

British lorries were still fairly commonplace when I was growing up in the 80s. Albions had largely gone but I used to see the occasional Commer (Gordonstoun fire station had one for years) or Scammell every now and again. There was an AEC that used to arrive in the village every year with the travelling show; I've no idea what model it was, but it had an Ergomatic cab which many contemporary Leylands also carried.

The man who lived opposite my grandfather used to park his Scania 142 at home over the weekend and I recall that it seemed fairly exotic at the time.
