Hey everyone. First post and apologies if the answer to this question is super obvious.

Can I take a Cambridge to London Terminal ticket to travel to Old Street, London by going to Kings Cross and then taking the northern tube line to Old Street.

The answer might just be no, because tube journeys are not permitted. However, I noticed that the national rail website says Old Street counts as a terminal for 'journeys starting north of London and via Kings Cross St Pancras only'. I assume the 'and' here is an 'or' because the usually suggested route is to change at Finsbury park and never goes though King's Cross. As far as I am aware, there is no direct train from King's Cross to Old street. Also read some things that the London Through Ticketing Agreement might allow me to take the tube as part of this journey.

Yes, you can travel to Old Street via King's Cross and the Northern line.
Would a Cambridge to London Terminals ticket definitely work the (LU) barriers on the Northern line at both Kings Cross St Pancras and at Old Street? (It wouldn't have a ✠ Maltese Cross symbol on it). Also, would the ticket have to be issued in CCST format?

How does this work in practice? Would a Cambridge to London Terminals ticket not get swallowed by the Kings Cross barriers?
No. These tickets are normally returned at the Kings Cross Gateline.

No the ticket won't work they gateline at Kings Cross St Pancras but staff shuld let you through manually of you explain that you're going to Old Street.

The inter-availability is that tickets with validity between Finsbury Park and London Terminals are also valid between Finsbury Park and Kings Cross St Pancras Underground but intermediately at Highbury & Islington only (Victoria Line/Piccadilly Line) and also between Kings Cross St Pancras Underground and Moorgate (via Circle, Metropolitan, Hammersmith & City and Northern Lines, but intermediately at Old Street ONLY.

This is the big problem with doing this. Some of the staff don’t know the rules and you have to have a debate with them. Even if you do the perfectly valid thing of changing at Highbury and Islington if no direct train is available from Kings Cross you need to go through manually. Often waiting a long time as the staff are doing other things.

My experience has been that the mere word "Moorgate" is enough for them to open the barriers instantly - the LU gateline seems to be well-trained on this.
