No First Class refund on GWR?

Hello all,

On Tuesday 25th I did a day return from Chippenham to Oxford with Advance First tickets both ways. The way out to Oxford on the 0935 was an IET but the 1504 Oxford back to Chippenham (booked train, Advance First as I say) was a 165 vice, so no First Class. Personally was a bonus as haven't had a Turbo between Didcot area and Swindon!

I logged onto refund portal but it's giving me option of Delay Repay (wasn't a delay) or unused tickets. I tried the FAQ but nothing comes under 'no First Class', is it possible to get a partial refund not sure how it would be calculated under an advance fare?

Any help appreciated!

James

I can't tell if there is the option for free text in the general refund section.
Annoyingly, Real Time Trains shows the service as a two-coach 165, but also states "First & Standard class seating".

This isn't claimed as a refund from the retailer, but instead you need to submit a claim from customer services.

...which is the allocated train (it's booked to be an IET)
but also states "First & Standard class seating".
...which is the advertised service offering.

So nothing at all wrong with what RTT is showing.

Misleading though.

I am simply replying to someone who said nothing at all wrong with what RTT is showing.

Using only offical sources how would a passenger find out what set ran on that date, and if it had first class or not?

I don't believe it is publicly available but you'd know from travelling on the service.

There is nothing wrong with it when used as intended.

To use a rubbish analogy, if the owners manual of your car says its top speed is 155mph, this doesn't mean that if you drive it at that everywhere things are going to go well for you.

Thank you for the link AlterEgo! Found the First Class section and posted details and pictures of tickets there

Had I been on a non-advance First I'd have probably done the 1538 IET to Didcot and then another one from there to Chippenham, out of interest I assume using a later service on an advance ticket because the train type has changed and now there is no first accommodation doesn't make it valid?

If you were on it you’d know. GWR’s journey check also shows if there is no first class on a train, such as when an Electrostar subs an IET to Cardiff.

You need to complain to customer services who will refund the premium paid.

This is what you need to do. GWR customer service. You are claiming for the difference in fare between standard and first because the train that you traveled on did not convey the advertised first class accommodation so you have to travel in standard.
