Annoying television adverts...

For some reason, I'm getting increasingly annoyed by the oft-repeated Harry Kane "BBQ" advert (for 'Google Gemini'?) and the one featuring Emma Raducanu (for 'Wild Deodorant'?!) Not sure that I'm in the target audience for either of these products! :s

Not television, but there's a Flixbus radio advert saying 'don't let your plans be...derailed'

I'm sure that wording and emphasis on 'derailed' is deliberate. A bit much I think given that it's only through sheer luck nobody has been killed and it's the result of our planet being cooked to a crisp.

... and arguably, diesel engined coaches play a small part in that.

Fed up with the Janeplan dietary meals adverts, particularly the one with the Chase's 'Dark Destroyer ' Seems nearly every advert breaks it's shown, l counted 10 times on a Sunday afternoon a few weeks ago whilst trying to watch a Bond film! Watched it with an elderly relative who wanted to watch it till the end.

Not a content complaint, although I could mention a few, but a quantity (of ads). When viewing any of the advert driven channels, so ITV channels or freeview, advert length seems to be around 5 mins on average, whereas programme segments are more like about 10 mins, some longer.

If 'one' randomly flicks over channels, not just when adverts come on to one's chosen channel, but also if 'one' gets bored mid programme segment and decide to flick over to a-another channel, the law of averages says that at least some of those channel changes should meet the new programme either near the start or mid way through a programme segment - in other words, one has a good 5 mins or more of programme viewing before the next batch of ads. appears.

In reality I have found over last how many years I can't remember, this isn't the case. No matter what ever time (of programme segment), no matter how many minutes past any given hour, no matter which channel being tuned in to, 90-95% of the time when I switch channels I am met with adverts, and more often than not, very near the beginning of same.

On a very few (rare) occasions I have arrived in the new chosen channel in programme segment mode, only for it to go over to adverts within seconds, or at best less than a minute - no lie!

Certain groups of channels seem to have their advert timing coinciding on one day, and then the next, not so.

Have mentioned this to mates, and they think I'm going do-lally. I tend to just hit the standby button now, and give a few minutes before switching in again.

Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this?

At least Sky Sports don't put on adverts when the race or game is live like ITV or miss the 1st ball of an over like TNT. Sky Indycar keeps going all be it with an ejit commentator when the provider Fox takes a break.

Yep, channels are seemingly syncing their advert breaks to match others. Happens too often to be a coincidence. I assume it's an industry wide agreement to try and dissuade viewers from changing channels.

In truth the TV for me is fading fast from my idea of entertainment now. I have a selection of vinyl 12" to listen to, from the 70/80's, all purchased new by moi, and a reliable system to play them on, Night Ranger, ELO, ToTo, Bob Marley, Moody Blues, Donna Summer, Abba, Eddie Grant etc, plus many, many more - still getting to grips with what I purchased 40-50 years ago, many from well known outlets at the time, HMV at Leicester Square, Dub Vendor on Lavender Hill at Clapham Junction etc. I'm getting to appreciate them again. Sod the TV - fast becoming over rated

TV is more background noise and familiar comfort viewing for me now. I watch far more repeats than new stuff. I'd subscribe to a streaming service if I could decide which one is worth it. Not sure who has what and what I actually want to see.

I find the website justwatch.com useful for this. Put in the name of a show and it will tell you which streaming services have it.
