When was the last time Leeds saw a 156

I’m having a debate with my friend and neither of us knows the answer.

I remember the last 156 I physically saw at Leeds around 2017/2018 just before Covid-19.

My friend thinks he saw one just after Covid-19.

My guess is before 195s became the main trains used for the Manchester to Leeds route.

According to Wikipedia – so not guaranteed to be accurate – the Leeds to Heysham service was still run by a 156 into 2022 – I don't know why that one would have persisted with 156s after other trains on the Bentham line were upgraded to 158s, but that's what it says!

This isn't correct. To do so would require Skipton train crew to sign 156s, which they haven't since Class 158s took over Carlisle services in the late 2000s.

They visit Neville Hill for wheel turning. I remember one doing the Harrogate loop around 2021. Think it was 156440. I can't remember seeing one since then in service around Leeds.

The 156 had been for tyre turning at Neville Hill and was being dropped off at Carlisle where it could get back to Heaton. Would this have actually happened though, I am not sure. Would the 156 have been locked out to passengers?

The 156 had been for tyre turning at Neville Hill and was being dropped off at Carlisle where it could get back to Heaton. Would this have actually happened though, I am not sure. This is plausible, I've seen the odd one do that as well in the last few years. Doing it requires a Carlisle crew as only they sign both the route and the traction. Shouldn't have been any issues with having passengers if it was only attached to a two car 158.

So far as I understand it all units have to be signed off in any part of the train, Incase of emergencies etc.

York Northern drivers sign 156s too so technically if needed they could take one empty all the way from Manchester Victoria to Newcastle if required. I suppose as well if needs be a Victoria guard could be used (as far as Leeds) and you could have an inservice train but I don't think it's very likely

Yes it did happen. I was the Leeds driver lucky enough to be on that diagram that day and was informed when I booked on by the train crew supervisor that I had a little treat for that days trip to Carlisle. It was on 2H86 10.49 Leeds - Carlisle. Yes passengers travelled in it, and was uncoupled at Carlisle to work a Newcastle service

I’m sure the Bentham line was 150s post pacer and pre 158
