Can only see 002 out today on the Exeter-Paignton-Exeter run then disappears probably into the depot.

No "overforms" (love that word) anywhere. Okehampton still has two 3 car turbos, third day running. Barnstaple a 150 on the 0722.

The diagram 003 has been on is being taken up by a 158 today. Assume same issue, no driver available signing 175?

175 113 just went through Truro empty on a Plymouth-Penzance//Penzance-Par run as 5Z14.

Seemed to be in working order, though it delayed the departure of the Falmouth…

I've read 003 is the only functional 175 at the moment. None in service today however.

Should clarify - 003's the only one passed for passenger use (and seems to have been working quite reliably?!). Others can move but are held back from passenger service pending their 1000 empty miles.

It looks like 002 remerged from Exeter Depot at 1446 and is going to go back and forth to Plymouth the rest of the day. At plymouth now in Dk3 leaving at 1609 as 5Z47

I’m sure they will be when a beefy rolling stock order is announced on the day of re nationalisation. How very cynical of me ;)

Until then, and for 3 years after that date we’re stuck with 26 non functioning rust buckets.

Actually, on that note, have they had any splashes at Dawlish yet? I suspect that will be another to add to the collection of reasons they can’t run. I was really looking forward to using these instead of those deafeningly loud and uncomfortable 150s.

Such a shame, I really hope they can turn it around. Good luck.
How did 180s do at Dawlish? If they survived it then 175s should be fine.

Did the 180s ever work through Dawlish? My recollection is that they were only used on Paddington-Worcester- Malvern-Hereford and Paddington-Swindon-Gloucester-Cheltenham services.
They did when new. There was a diagrammed Plymouth working.

They were actually ordered for Cardiff Central services. They regularly did Cardiff, Bristol, Exeter (with one further to Plymouth) and Cheltenham, later doing Cotswold and Oxford work as they began to be handed back.

It was when they returned to the GW (2012-2017) that they were used exclusively on the Cotswold line.

Cotswold line wasn't part of the Franchise when they were ordered, however 5 180s were subleased to sister company First Great Western Link from 2004 for Cotswold line services

I believe they were actually ordered to replace loco hauled MK2 stock which did operate to Plymouth and Exeter and various other places.

They are here:

Eventually replaced with extra HSTs from MML after Project Rio, and became HST diagrams from the common pool

It was shared in that FGW did the Hereford services and FGWL everything else. Herefords were HSTs of course.

My understanding was they were ordered to allow London South Wales to go up to half hourly. It could be both.

Just checked and 002 on its way back to Laira as 5P28. The 158 finishing of 2P28 but needing to stay at Exeter. Hopefully 002 has clocked up a lot of mileage.
