I was hoping for a bit more flesh on the bones
So was I, but unless someone with more insight comes up with it, that's where we are.

No Metrocars yet today today and a 555 failure has already been replaced with another 555, so there are at least 29 out of 41 working...

And why I read this Forum!

Well, one less after the failure!!

No, there have been no Metrocars on passenger work (or indeed any work) since 26 July.

Today, at least two 555s have been pulled and replaced by other 555s, and there's another 555 on driver training as well, which probably gives you an idea of the availability.

When do the RHTTs start?
Usually mid/late September from memory - though last year the planned start date and actual start date were two separate things as Metrocars don't usually fare too well dragging the RHTT equipment around.

Me and a mate are coming to Newcastle next week for a bit of a ride around on the 555s and the ferry. Are there any 599s left now (apart from the RHTT) and if yes, is south Gossy the best place to see them ?

Your best place to see them would be cheswick drive located between South Gosforth and regent centre whats appropriately 8 minutes walk. There are currently 8 units left on the Network, metrocars 4024,4029,4041,4050,4068,4078,4079 & 4081

.
Just to add that no 599s have been in service for about 2 and a half weeks now, so seeing them at the depot is almost certainly going to be your only option

Cars 41 and 81 currently in howdon depot when I passed yesterday
Cheers we’ll try and pass that way as well if we can

If anyone still reads this thread and knows the area, would you suggest getting off at South Gossy, walking along Station Rd, then left down Hunter’s Road (and over the footbridge) would be the best way to see any remaining Metrocars? We’ll be there tomorrow (Wed) lunchtime.

When I went to the airport on Friday, I seen 68 coupled to another unit (couldn’t see number unfortunately) stabled on the far side close to regent centre, been blocked in by 555s

Ah, seems like you were lucky. well this week there’s no airport service unfortunately. Anyway we enjoyed our journeys on the 555s including a look at some of the classic stations too

With the first of the new Stadler units already being at Gosforth, the second unit en-route to Gosforth, and the announcement that the first Metrocar will enter preservation in the next few months, I’ve created this thread to keep track of the outgoing Metro fleet over the next 2 years as it’s withdrawn and units are preserved, scrapped or converted for other uses.

I’ve created a fleet list which I’ll keep updated as regularly as I can.

The fleet situation is very fluid, with changes taking place often several times a week.

Key:
Green
- operational
Red - withdrawn
Orange - not operational, may return to service in the future
Blue - Under attention
Purple - non passenger use
Grey - removed from Nexus property but survives
Strikethrough - Scrapped
Units marked with * did not undergo the 2010-2015 Wabtec refurbishment, instead receiving corrosion repairs and RVAR mods at Gosforth between 2018-2020. They were not compatible with the wider fleet in service, however could run together empty. All of these units are now withdrawn.
Units marked with = did not receive the new male auto announcements in 2014-2015 and retain the previous female auto announcements. Announcements are controlled by the leading unit, the announcements installed on the leading unit will play through the full formation.

Whilst there are still units to report on, I thought that I would just say thank you for the upkeep of this excellent record. It has been an important feature of the whole replacement programme over the past few years and has been very much appreciated.

Does anyone have a record of when and what the most recent Metrocar working was? Presumably it’s fair to say that they have now slipped quietly into history as far as carrying passengers is concerned.
