Trainline fares - tube plus National Rail

Hi there, I have a question regarding fares I can buy on Trainline that include tube travel.

I commute from Stevenage to Victoria. When I leave work, I usually tap on using my bank card from Victoria to Finsbury Park, then buy a ticket on the Trainline app from FP to Stevenage. This usually costs me £2-3ish in tube fare and £13 for the National rail ticket (with Network rail card).

When I input Victoria Station as my departure point and Stevenage as my arrival point on the Trainline app, this shows a ticket price of £13.50ish It tells me I have to take a tube to King’s Cross then hop on the National Rail train.

I want to check that paying the £13.50-ish price does include tube and train travel because that will definitely save me some money compared to paying by bank card and Trainline separately for both legs of the journey.

It would be nice if Uber would specify what they're selling you but the prices match and this ticket is valid for the journey you describe, including one single journey on the tube within zones 1 and 2. Note the morning and evening peak restrictions.

If you buy this ticket it will make you collect it at the station. It will have the London Underground Zones that you can travel in printed on it.

EDIT: Ah, yeah, it's the Anytime discounted with the Network Railcard, not the off-peak. Agree it's important to get an itinerary via Finsbury Park if you want to go that way, to guarantee Uber is selling you the Zones U12 ticket rather than the Zones U1.

What Trainline will be selling you is a London Underground Zone 1 to Stevenage ticket, this absolutely is valid on the tube. However, I would advise searching for 'London Underground Zone 1-2' (You may have to type the whole thing in for it to show). This ticket allows a single journey on the tube in zones 1 and 2, rather than just 1 as the default fare, and therefore if you wanted to it would let you take the tube all the way to Finsbury Park as you do now. Because of the minimum fare on Network Railcards it'll cost the exact same £13 as the Zone 1 fare, but obviously bring greater flexibility for you.

Just as a heads up tickets that include tube travel must be collected at a TVM using TOD, so for example one in the Victoria National Rail station, or at Stevenage on your way to work, if you buy it on your phone. You might be able to also buy it at a Tube station, but it is not guaranteed that specific ticket at that price is available on the Tube machines.

Ah it may be that ticket, but that's certainly not what Trainline is offering when I try it, and would mean it isn't applying the Network Railcard for some reason. I assumed it might be a minimum fare plus booking fee.

Thanks all, very helpful response! I’ve been travelling into London for yonks now so technically have been paying £2-3 extra per journey… now I know better! Appreciate all the responses

You can save another 50p by buying an Anytime Day Single from Battersea Park to Stevenage route +any permitted or most other stations in South London as they all have a £13 minimum fare with the Network Card and starting short at Victoria. The + includes tube transfer from Victoria to an appropriate north london terminal.
If you make the journey more than about 100 times a year it would be worth considering one of the cheap gold card seasons.

Finsbury Park to London Kings X is an interavailable route (i.e. valid on National Rail or Tube services) so a Zone 1 ticket only might be sufficient
