Ah well. I have no idea. Yonks ago I rode on 4544, and then I didn't even notice.

Looks like the Derby Geminis are getting new rear adverts. Different wording.

For a car retailer. Advertising the bus's biggest competitor!

Talking about shooting yourself in the foot...

And this isn't the first time Arriva has done this. I think some of Leicester's DB250s had them in their closing years, as did the last of Leicester's Eclipse Geminis.

Indeed, several Derby buses have had adverts on the back for Hilton Garage.

the DAF/DB250s had adverts for availablecar.com

one of the Leicester E400MMCs is currently running around with a full rear advert for skills holidays.

I picked up passengers in Leicester on most weekends during 30+ years of driving for Skills so no surprise they are still advertising

Not convinced there is any relation between bus usage and adverts for cars, what is more likely to turn people to car usage is poor, unreliable service, which let's be honest, isn't uncommon.

Untouched internally. Not for the first time, Derby does it on the cheap, whilst other depots, whose refurbs are carried out in Derby) get the full treatment...
To be honest, they’re not in bad nick internally - I travelled on a couple on the final day of the uni contract, and neither struck me as being in need of refurbishment.

It's probably still basically Sapphire specification, like new Arriva buses still de-facto are internally.

(And rather unlike 3737, which upon closer inspection has normal navy blue seats without headrests and, unlike its Sapphire livery would suggest, basically doesn't have a Sapphire specification internally. I've seen plenty of Sapphire-Buses-In-All-But-Name, but now I've seen a Sapphire-Bus-In-Name-Only!)

uncommon in Derby, quite low dead mileage & a lot of the time enough spares to cover breakdowns.

overall Arriva seem to be improving quite a lot, in some cases it’s about bloody time!

Also…. It’s not a new thing.

Indeed and let's be realistic, in most areas, buses just aren't a desirable way of travelling and people generally aren't using them through choice, I can't imagine anyone seeing an advert for used cars on the back of a bus suddenly thinking, let's go by car instead!

Telford's Wright StreetLite Max buses appear to be part of the Arriva UK bus refurbishment programme https://news.arriva.co.uk/news/arri...-investment-in-uk-bus-fleet-and-depot-renewal . (The refubishment has been discussed in previous posts).
In total, Arriva is committing £340m to the programme, including a £310m investment in 809 brand-new vehicles and the refurbishment of more than 150 vehicles that are already in operation. A further £30m will be invested in upgrades to the company’s property portfolio, in addition to continued investment in depot electrification schemes.
3310 FJ64EVN, 3321 FJ64ETX and 3322 FJ64ETY have been so noted. They have the darker livery and internal refurbishment with the new blue moquette.

But they're advertising outside the bus, to people behind the bus who are likely to be car users.

Seems reasonable to me.
I think they will advertise almost anything for anyone who pays. I assume few want to advertise with the larger adverts on buses, as there seems to be fewer adverts like this in recent years.

It is a shame advertising space is not used to advertise their bus services though. There are very few external adverts for £3 fares or day tickets, or even basic network maps that would promote the services to those who are not familiar with what is on offer.

I would imagine it's because of cost and that they'd be required to change the advertising (further cost) when there are changes etc. Plus for things like route maps etc that restricts the bus to a certain route.

But certainly some bus companies do well at branding - just don't think it's (ever?) been Arriva's forte?
