It’s a shame that after the investment in extended hours on the 15/17 earlier this year there are now what seems like daily notices like this in the app. The list today did seem worse than most days.

I know they have taken on the X19 work and seem to be advertising heavily for drivers - does anyone know if the reliability is likely to improve anytime soon?IMG_0685.jpeg

Was just about to make a post on this, the X19 cancellations are similar, have drivers left already after the taking on of the extra work or just other factors? Shame whatever it is.

I don’t think they’ve ran a full service on any day since taking over the X19 operation, although that has been a mix of bus and driver availability. The rumour mill does suggest it’s not a happy camp at the moment.

The company could probably start with paying their drivers a much better wage, with the rate being £14.42 an hour I think I'd right in saying they're probably the lowest paying operator in Glasgow.

Cancelling services seems to be the default across the WCM group, including Borders Buses, though thankfully not on the scale seen in Glasgow.

I suspect that all is not well.

Don't know if WCM have the same issues but the Borders Buses twitter feed can be embarrassingly useless:

The 12:10 is delayed by approximately 15 minutes due to a technical error We apologise for any inconvenience caused - WHAT IS THE SERVICE NUMBER, WHERE IS IT GOING FROM AND TO?

PLease note that due to a flat tyre this service will run approximately 30 minutes late with a replacement vehicle. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause - WHICH SERVICE, WHICH DIRECTION?

Due to roadworks in and around Edinburgh/Stow areas this service is unfortunately cancelled. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause - WHICH SERVICE, WHICH DIRECTION?

Please note that these stops are currently out of use due to temporary roadworks in the area. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause - WHICH STOPS?

Due to congestion within Edinburgh, our departure from Galashiels 13:52 is delayed by 20 minutes. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. - PRESUMABLY AN X95 TO HAWICK OR CARLISLE

It can't be that hard to set up some kind of a template to use, can it?

On the plus side, their buses are always well presented but the vast majority aren't showing 'next stop is' displays, even the new 75 and 26 plates are still to be set up despite having the screens built in.
I've been on the MCV 75 plate quite a lot recently and whilst it has minor rattles towards the rear they are nothing like as prevalent or as noisy as on the ADL 26 plates.
No idea what the chassis or engine is but the 75 MCV rides much better than other buses and the engine is hugely quieter than anything else they've got.
They appear to be going down the cheap as possible route as new buses no longer have USB chargers (the MCV has 1 at the disabled bit) whereas in the near past they advertised USB on the windscreens and every seat had 1.
There do seem to be an increasing and frequent number of bus failures just now - it's been nothing like as warm in the Borders as it has down south so can't really see temperatures being a factor but seems like pretty much every day breakdowns are an issue.

All MCVs have USBs under the seats they can be hard to see, The 75 plate one has them at every seat I've been on it plenty of times and used them, The 26 plates Glasgow have all have them as well it's standard on all stock Evoras after 2021. The 26 plate E200MMCs have then at the front of the vehicle, Seats behind the driver on the interior walls right up to the first elderly passenger seat

I gather that the social media team are based through in Glasgow and only work from 9-5, so any breakdowns/accidents/delays which happen after then aren't communicated. A few weeks ago the last Galashiels-bound 60 of the day was caught in the aftermath of an earlier accident in Eyemouth. That change was communicated via Twitter and the app; however the vehicle running that journey was then itself involved in an accident in Ayton, and that wasn't communicated. Looking at the tracking for that day (28th July) a bus was put on to cover the service between Earlston and Galashiels, but nothing to cover between Ayton and Earlston so anyone waiting for it in, say, Duns would only have found out about the accident through word of mouth.

I myself have been twice threatened with a ban from the social media feeds by Borders Buses managers for calling them out on Facebook regarding service unreliablilty, so now I just lurk on the threads and don't contribute to them.

The problem as I see it is that Borders Buses is running a mainly rural network with town buses. The 69 and 20-plate E200MMCs have been hammered going to and from Edinburgh on the X62 and X95 (and until last October, on the 253) so it's no surprise that they have become unreliable.

I've noticed in the past 5 years a significant decline in the quality of presentation for the Argyll fleet, with many depots being used as throwaways for old vehicles and poorly branded vehicles

The MCV Evoras are usually (always?) built on Volvo chassis

Similar list again today for both the 15 and 17. I didn't know things were so bad as to warrant such a service reduction, but I'm not entirely surprised either. Increasingly beginning to think that them taking the X19 on the way they have (taking on all the operational expenditures while Stagecoach still gets any and all profits) is proving to be more trouble than it's worth, especially when it's impacting their core services like this.

I had reason to break my journey to the city on the 17 at Bearsden/Canniesburn today and I only found out about the reduced timetable when I saw the half-hour wait for the next 17 at the Kessingston stop on Maryhill Rd (before Rannoch Drive), so I got the next 60/60A that turned up; I wasn't prepared to wait that long.

Will likely be using ScotRail get back to Clydebank this evening and will be doing so for all future trips into the city until WCM get a handle on this. Really frustrating as the 17 is overall the best option for getting into the city for me in terms of cost and travel time (the never-ending roadworks on Maryhill Rd notwithstanding).

This beggars belief! Rather than run another bus to Canonbie to pick up the passengers and carry on the journey, the passengers now face a 2-hour wait for the next bus north.

In addition, there was a breakdown in Eyemouth yesterday afternoon on a Tweedmouth-bound service 60. This was communicated via the app which mentioned that there was a replacement bus en-route, with the 1715 service 60 from Tweedmouth delayed by 30 minutes as a result. However, no further updates were given and the replacement bus didn't show on the trackers, leaving passengers playing a guessing game as to when it would eventually arrive.

Whelp, the 17 is more trouble than it's worth for me heading out tonight (the 17:05 is the one I was aiming for), so First Glasgow & ScotRail are likely to get my business again:

Screenshot 2026-08-16 15.52.58.png

It's all well and good having modern and on the whole well-presented Volvo/MCVs running the bulk of your core services, but imho they don't count for squat when you don't have the drivers to cover a full Sunday timetable, never mind a Mon-Sat one. Additionally, this list doesn't even remotely account for delays on Maryhill Road and elsewhere causing buses to stack, resulting in buses that are meant to be, on average, a half-hour apart in this reduced timetable appearing less than 10 minutes apart with even bigger gaps resulting. Of course, WCM aren't at fault for the never-ending roadworks, but at the same time they didn't have to take the X19 on at all, especially when one considers that the way they've done so hasn't ended well for other, smaller operators who had similar arrangements with the larger ones; the Dart Buses parallels are more relevent than some may realize. This honestly has the feeling of them over-extending themselves and any and all cracks are now clear as day.

It's a shambolic state of affairs all round and such a comedown from all the publicity surrounding extending the 15/17's operating hours at the start of the year.

Franchising in Greater Glasgow can’t come soon enough!
I agree, at least when its publicly owned and their still unable to get drivers we can blame the council not private company. ;)

A bit like Bus stuck in traffic because here no bus infrastructure, it always better to be in public own one :D

If they can't get drivers when franchising has started it's still the private companies that are at fault.

Under franchising, they won’t be publicly owned but at least there’s a possibility of a more integrated public transport model.

And buses stuck in traffic isn’t just down to lack of bus infrastructure, it’s also as a result of not enough people using public transport and using their cars instead.

If you can't get drivers, it's because you're not paying enough.
