Pub near Paddington prior to the Night Riviera

Any recommendations for a decent pub to sit in prior to boarding the Night Riviera on a Sunday evening?
The possibility of real ale / craft beer being a definite bonus!

For real ale at good prices, plus food until it closes at 10.30pm on a Sunday how about the Spoons on Paddington Basin just a couple of minutes walk away:

Adding on to that, it still leaves plenty of time to take advantage of the Lounge's amenities (especially the showers if you're like me and insist on having a wash before bed)

The Mad Bishop & Bear on the station, a bit pricey but offers a 20% discount for CAMRA members. Also the Bear, Spring Street, with an excellent selection of real and craft ales.

My suggestion would be The Bear in Spring Street - literally just a couple of minutes' walk from Paddington station. Up the ramp beside the Elizabeth Line entrance, cross Praed Street, and it's there on the left.

The pub is in the Good Beer Guide, it has six changing real ales from small unusual breweries, twenty-nine keg beers, 200+ bottled beers. There is a large beer menu to help you decide.
If you think this sounds like beer heaven, I'd say you were right.

"The Bear" is not to be confused with "The Mad Bishop & Bear" actually on the station as mentioned by Haywain above. I like both, but the Bear has more interesting beer by far!

I second this, been there myself. Usual London prices and really good selection of beers

Don't forget you have access to the first class lounge at Paddington if you have a berth

Last time I did the Riviera I was recommended a pub called the Heron which is about a 10 minute walk from Paddington. It’s a lot better than it looks from the outside, and the Guinness was very good, but best of all there’s a proper Thai restaurant downstairs.

This was just prior to COVID so no idea what it’s like now, but it still seems to be operating the same way

I also had a very good pint in a Fuller’s pub called (I think) the Victoria by Gloucester Square so a spit from Padd.

Both times I've done the Riviera I've dined in the Victoria! Gorgeous old pub, run by Fullers, and the pub grub and beer are very good.

I went in the Sawyers Arms about 50 yards down London Street just across the road from the main entrance
