looks like somebody mixed up time zones

got a Avanti Train too Manchester later today and found the website shows the time of 15:53 but the email i got yesterday shows it as 16:53 instead

Website

Email

I'm assuming the 15:53 time is right as more sources say so but how would people here read this conflicting information?

Probably a time zone issue. Avanti's site is awful. What does your ticket say?

I've seen Gmail muddle up time zones frequently. Is this definitely the Avanti part of the email? And not a Gmail summary at the top?

Both services exist.

I am assuming you want the 1553 as that's the one which showed on the website when you booked?

What does it say on your ticket though?

Sorry I should've been clearer - what does the seat reservation part of your ticket say? If it's an e-ticket it should be part of the same PDF. If it's a ticket-on-demand, there should be a print out which includes the seat reservation.

ah yea, was using the ticket on my apple wallet that doesn’t store that
the pdf says 15:53 and that tracks with other sources, just strange that the Email gets it wrong as a UTC/BST issue would display as 14:53 instead

That's the one the seat reservation should be set up for then. Though like you say you can take any service. If you choose a different one you can contact Avanti and make a standalone seat reservation.

And you've just got it wrong because the email says 1653 :D

I'd report this to Avanti though so they can pass it on to their software team to fix.

As others have said, the Avanti site is awful.

Both trains do exist.

If you have an Anytime Single, I believe Avanti have charged you around double the price of what the forum ticketing site would have charged for walk-up travel (i.e. excluding Advances):

I understand people put up with the awful Avanti website on the basis that overpaying by a few quid and using an awful interface and getting inaccurate info may be worth it for the reward scheme, but when the premium to use the awful Avanti site is about £100, I would be surprised if it's worth putting up with that!

I have just discovered the same issue with a Standard Advance Single for tomorrow.

I booked the 13.10 from Euston. The ticket in my Apple Wallet says 13.10 and the Avanti app says 13.10.

Meantime I got an email from Avanti which includes the words “important” and “final” before saying my journey is at 14.10.

Imagine what would happen if I took their garbage email literally and turned up for the 14.10!

As an itinerary sold with your ticket you'd have been able to rely on it but you would have to prepare yourself for hassle from a ticket inspector.

I should have said: the original sales itinerary a few days ago says the correct 13.10 time.

This is a new itinerary email positioned almost like a reminder or an update the day before travel.

Surely it would always be cheaper to split somewhere, no?
Approx £90 to £100 cheaper with splits, on the forum ticketing site, compared to booking direct with Avanti.

And still having access to a seat selector, plus a much nicer user interface/booking experience than the awful buggy Avanti site.

(This is one of the reasons why Avanti, LNER etc are so desperately keen for people to book direct!)

The only advantage of using the Avanti site is that if you are delayed you get your delay repay automatically. Otherwise it's really clunky, and other sites can get you standard premium, choice of seat etc. I don't think it will give you a cheaper split ticket option either if another company is involved (eg LWM to Milton Keynes, Avanti onward)????
