Just like the bus station discussion, once again you latch onto the penny while ignoring the pound.
Look after the pennies and the pounds look after themselves. In public transport operation, seconds count. Despite this, bus operators seem not to even care about minutes as long as they can blame someone else for them while the solutions to the ones they control are staring them in the face and practiced in pretty much every country bar the UK.
If the UK is the only country doing something (running single door buses in urban areas) it's probably reasonable to conclude that the UK is likely wrong, not all the other countries.
