Quite common on Cross Country, which is nice. Unfortunately the guard yesterday spoke too quietly to make out anything they were saying (I've had the same guard before and this seems to be a regular thing for them).I recently travelled on a Crosscountry train on which there were no automated announcements whatsoever, and the only manual announcements were simple "We're now approaching xxx" from the train manager. It was sheer bliss, and (as far as I know) no-one came to any harm by not being told to take care or to see it, say it, sorted every five minutes.
I'm on an SWR service at the moment and both before and after the crew change the guards have said nothing and left the auto announcer to do it's thing. Much better than them duplicating everything, even if 61016 still gets played.
