Will these new barriers be able to detect adults travelling on childs tickets? Or is that still going to be a loophole.
How would that be possible? Can't use height as kids under 15 can easily be 5'8 or taller. Also cant say all adults are above a certain height as that is likely to trip up for the elderly or those with dwarfism.
Can't say that any male with facial hair must be an adult, that would fail for a high percentage of Asian boys.
Enlighten me, I am curious as to how it would be successful.

They have cameras! Would it not be possible for the gates to tell who is clearly over 16 And flag for a physical check?
Well we know how well these AI age estimation systems work (they don't). Though I suppose a system with false positives is better than the current system of rejecting ALL child tickets even if they are clearly under 10.
What stations are this? I've not noticed any difference in the stations I've used
Not if those false positives end up racial or gender profiling.
As if human inspectors can be trusted not to do that. Determining how old someone looks involves a lot of profiling to begin with.
No, cameras and software are nowhere near good enough. Guessing an age between 14-20 is a minefield

The new style of barriers have been installed on both sides at High Wycombe now (it was just the platform 3 entrance before), but like every time I've walked past them on platform 3 they seem to be left open with manual checks instead.
The only time I've seen the gates in the closed position was very recently after they were installed, but they still weren't working so one was kept open...
I hope my handful of visits isn't representative as it's quite poor to see.

I would imagine they're tuning or training the cameras at the moment, or possibly the readers are just misbehaving like they are at Norwich at the moment.
I have been told that Wickford will receive the new Cubic barriers.

That is correct re Wickford. They have just been installed on the London bound entrance in the new glass structure. (Photo attached).
The main station is still being rebuilt, so it will be good to see how the new barriers are fitted on that side.
Wickford has the old railway club inside the new barrier area and a lot of school children/parents use the station bridge to get between the two sides of the town/schools, so it will be interesting to see if they make people walk the long way around once they are operational.
