I know some Birmingham-Scotland services have been running Pendolinos during the summer since 054 arrived. Are any still scheduled to run M-F after September or will services revert to Voyagers only?

Yes, the new timetable is a week tomorrow so you won't have long to work out which services are 390...

Should be interesting to see.

Is the plan for all Brum-Scotland services to be operated by Pendolinos?

All I know is that it's ridiculous to run Voyagers under the wires! I regularly travel on these services between Carlisle and Edinburgh. The guard on my train today mentioned how it was meant to be twice as long, not sure if it was meant to be a 390 or 2x 221s, this was the 1452 ex EDB.

But how do you do that? I thought the timings were the same for 390s and 221s?
Unless you have access to the diagrams then sadly observation would be the only way
I would expect daily and weekly comparisons will confirm which will swap from Voyager to Class 390
Some Birmingham - Scotland services were already operated by Class 390, so no change, again you would only know about these from observation
07:20 Birmingham - Glasgow was one such service

Are Pendo's still able to run from Brum to Edinburgh?

Are the wires still active from Haymarket to Carstairs?

I thought since East Coast don't use them anymore they may have been decomissioned.

What about the Scotrail Edinburgh-London via Carlisle sleepers?

Seeing as there is still 1tpd each way between Glasgow Central and Kings Cross (in addition to the sleepers and 390s) there is no way that the wires have been decommissioned.

Sorry, I obversly need to brush up on my knowledge of the East Coast timetable.

I thought through trains from King's Cross to Glasgow ended in May this year and local trains from Edinburgh to Carstairs could only be operated by 2 car DMU's cus of short platform lengths at local stations.

by the amount of electric stock that uses the carstairs line it would seem like it should be turned off but no, the wirings on for the following trains only.

Empty sleeper stock to polmadie (class 91)
3 services each way between n-berwick-glasgow central with new 380s (very nice as well, virtually silent). this is because they are serviced in glasgow shield so they are stopping vehicle movements.
1 edinburgh-euston pendolino service each way a day.
1 central-kings cross each way each day (class91)
occasionally they use pendolinos on the new street service at weekends when there is more stock freed up.
and thats your lot.

So its a precession of dmus
cross country voyagers,
virgin voyagers on birmingham services.
then desiros for the transpennine manchester services.
So yeah, not a very efficient use of the electric network i would have to agree. good to see pendolinos being used more often. they should be slightly quicker by rights as they tilt more they have a 10 mph advantage from shap northwards. i assume as they are electric they should accelerate better than a voyager.

batman the shotts line uses 156 dmus normally 2 car of 2x2 car formations. The services via carstairs were 4 car 320s and now 4 car 380's. Thinks most platforms are 4 and might stretch to 6 cars. yep through trains from Kings X have nearly ended, cross country have picked up the spare capacity.
