Lineside fire between Cardiff and Newport, trains cancelled, advice please

Just learnt that my booked 10:28 from Hereford to Chester today is cancelled. Trying to get to Liverpool/Southport.

Does anyone know what if any ticket acceptance is in place (Advance ticket), or do I just have to go to the station and seek advice?

The train is starting from Shrewsbury

2 options, either get earlier train 09:59 to Shrewsbury, then join it at Shrewsbury. Or would have to get a series of trains, whatever runs next in correct direction (would arrive much later, but be eligible for delay repay)

First one would get you there on time, and no ticket problems.
Second option would depend on ticket, but generally if train is cancelled can get next one, and no problem getting preceeeding train to connect to original train no longer serving your booked start station

You could get the 10:54 to Shrewsbury and then the 12:27 to Chester from there (arriving 13:23).

The 10:54 left Milford Haven 18 minutes late, so is likely to be late

Perhaps the train crew were unavailable due to having worked another train affected by the fire.

Good point. The inbound was cancelled too so that explains it.
