Question: West Midlands nBus tickets

I am looking to travel as far as the nBus day ticket allows in the West Midlands. I think from looking at the fare map and Google Maps that the most easterly and westerly points that you can use the nBus ticket are as follows:

Westerly stop: Tinacre Hill (Stop ID: nwmjmdtd)
Easterly stop: Warwickshire Shopping Park (Stop ID: nwmwgtwg)

Does this seem right or are there some bus stops further out where you can travel to using the day pass?

nBus is valid to Kinver on service 242, which is further west than the one above.
In Coventry, check if any stop on service 8 at Cross Point Business Park is slightly further east than the one above.

In Coventry, I should think the furthest east point is Ansty Park on the X30 (which is actually in Warwickshire, but is a subsidised service of TfWM)

Yes, you are right, there is a bunch of bus stops just over in the Ansty Park which are slightly further east. Sadly, the X30 doesn't appear to run on a Saturday which is when I'll be attempting this. So, might leave this out as a technicality as it's not really in the West Midlands!

nBus is not valid beyond Wrottesley Park Road, Perton, on 10A, according to the tinted area indicated on TfWM's current Wolverhampton bus map to be found at https://www.tfwm.org.uk/plan-your-journey/discover-the-west-midlands/local-area-maps.
Yes, this is right, the zone apparently only extends to Wrottesley Park Road - and I think looking at the map doesn't include Wrottesley Park Road - so I think the most westerly stop on the 10A would be on The Parkway which is actually a little more further than Tinacre Hill so thank you.

Ah, amazing, I hadn't seen Kinver which appears to be a tiny little corridor of acceptance! How bizarre as on the nBus network map (https://cloudcdn.wmca.org.uk/wmnassets/apps/ticketing/2.15.99/img/nbus_nnetworkmap.png) they show that Kinver is actually more easterly than Perton. I noticed a similar thing with the TfGM maps that they aren't very geographically accurate.

So is Pattingham included? The Wolverhampton map appears to say not?
Pattingham isn't on the NX Outer Zone map so I'd assume you can use nBus there.

However Pattingham doesn't have buses on Saturdays so Codsall might be a good place to start with(Which, accounting the distance going north, is slight further than Kinver)

I've raised a query to TfWM to ask whether Pattingham is included or not as the two maps appear to give differing answers!

To Ansty Park.
Perfect, thank you. I don't suppose you know the answer of the westerly side as to whether nBus tickets are accepted over to Pattingham or not?

Intriguingly I have just looked at the Coventry local area map from TfWM and on that they say that the nBus does not cover the X30 to Ansty Park and instead only to Cross Point Park and after that it is outside the nBus zone. It does appear that if the nBus is valid on the X30 all the way to Ansty Park then their maps need updating!

They are accepted to Ansty Park, also to Middlemarch on the 21A and SEGRO Park on the 13 - all these points actually in Warwickshire, but mainly Coventry residents travelling to them.

The printed map I have at home, issued June 2026, shows Ansty Park included.

Also Keresley Village on the 16 and 57.

Yes. Part of Keresley Village is in the City of Coventry and part in Warwickshire. One street has the boundary is in the middle of the road, houses on each side in different areas! I don't think there is any validity nowadays on the (Stagecoach) 57 in Keresley - the only journey there comes from the Nuneaton direction, which is definitely not in the nBus zone.

That is so bizarre as the boundary map on TfWM's own website shows it's not - https://cloudcdn.wmca.org.uk/documents/tfwm/pdf/coventry_area_map_20260503.pdf - this was also updated in June 2026.

Frustratingly on their larger map (https://cloudcdn.wmca.org.uk/wmnassets/apps/ticketing/2.15.99/img/nbus_nnetworkmap.png) there's very little detail so it's hard to see whether this covers Ansty Park or not. Do you have a scan of the paper map at all as I'm starting to think all the maps seem to show something different!

That is not quite true - the map doesn't say they are not valid. You are making that inference. The Coventry Area Map shows the WM boundary and states that nbus tickets are valid within this area. Which is strictly correct, they are ..... but they are also valid on some outlying routes too, which is not mentioned but nonetheless true also!

True it does not explicitly state it, but by defining the zone which they are valid it implies that outside that area they are not valid...?

Yes it could be taken as implying that, I agree. But that is just an interpretation. However, the map shows the West Midlands County Boundary - it is not defining the zone (it does not say 'nBus validity zone boundary' or some such). It does state that nBus tickets are valid within the WM County Boundary, which is quite true. Nobody will be travelling out of validity if they adhere to this information.

The nBus validity map is next to useless in defining the actual boundaries - after all, not many people will know exactly where the County boundary is (not that the map explanation tells you even that definition), let alone the various bits of extra validity outside the boundary already discussed.

I would agree if that was the case on all their maps, but open up the Sandwell & Dudley map from TfWM also (https://cloudcdn.wmca.org.uk/documents/tfwm/pdf/sandwell_&_dudley_area_map_20260503.pdf) which is in exactly the same format and updated in June 2026 and this shows that Kinver is in the nBus validity zone and also shows that it's outside the WM boundary, which is what led me to believe that Ansty Park is not in the nBus validity zone.

You can also see the same in the Walsall map where it shows the nBus validity zone extending in to Staffordshire in Little Aston. Also on the Wolverhampton map it shows the nBus validity zone extending in to Staffordshire but oddly then states the nBus zone ends in Perton when it's confirmed above that it does actually extend out to Pattingham.

Very confusing all round!

Although this one https://nxbus.co.uk/coventry/help-information/our-operating-area on the National Express Coventry site shows Pattingham in the nBus zone, Middlemarch (Cov) and I presume the bump to the east of Longford is Ansty Park ?

Agree, every map seems to show something different as this one doesn't appear to show the kink out to Kinver!

Quite possible, the NX Coventry one maybe doesn't include Kinver as it's not a NX service that goes out that way. Not customer friendly whatever the answer is if you live or are travelling to someone right at the edge of the zone!

The printed TfWM Coventry map I have has the boundary marked as nbus zone (red dotted line) and all the areas mentioned as outside the council area are included. The county boundary is not shown. It does only cover Coventry, so Kinver and various other places near Wolverhampton are not shown!

Note that this map makes no reference to any operator.

How bizarre, the printed TfWM map looks nothing like their digital version. I'd argue that this printed one is much helpful to travellers than the digital versions too as this doesn't complicate it with county borders which aren't really needed when you're just wanting to know where your bus goes.

I was unaware printed TfWM maps were available. I haven't seen any in the West Midlands since the pandemic. Do you mind me asking where that came from?

It is primarily for distribution around Coventry, including a door drop. There are also timetable leaflets!

It is based on the map that was originally produced by NXC at various times.
