Hi all on the northern travel complimentary travel passes ( return ) are you allowed to get on and off at stations - in between the origin and destination stations that you fill in ? Just like most return tickets give a break of journey ?

Many thanks in advance for any help greatly appreciated

Yes you just keep meandering to your destination stopping where you want. I have sometimes even caught a bus along the way and carried on.

They hardly ever get checked anyway. The flash of blue is nearly always enough.

The only issue I’ve ever had with these tickets is the occasional over-zealous conductor demanding I write in the return date whilst still on the outward journey

Doing Hebden Bridge - Bradford Interchange - (walk) - Bradford Forster Square - Skipton - Carnforth - Barrow - Carlisle - Newcastle raised a few eyebrows, the occasional laugh and one question as to whether I was some sort of masochist.

I once used a return one filled in as Redcar to Whitehaven to do Redcar - Middlesbrough - Carlisle then hopped on an Avanti with an AP to Wigan North Western before doing Wigan Wallgate - Manchester Vic - Leeds - Doncaster, LNER to Middlesbrough on an AP and finally back to Redcar.

Nobody even batted an eye...

I had my first issue with one a few months ago where a conductor on the Hope Valley line accused me of filling it in using a pencil when I'd actually used a biro as usual. He made me overwrite the details using his pen, which if anything made it look suspicious.

I wonder if that's the same guard I had when I used my first one who was the only one to spend even more than half a second looking at it, and overwrote the info in his pen.

And yes I don't think anyone will really care what you do with it as long as you've filled the relevant boxes in and are vaguely headed in the right direction.

Thank you all for your help and sharing your experiences . I managed to do Rochdale - Halifax - Leeds ( via dewsbury ) - Barnsley , left station for lunch and couple of pints. Barrier staff were checking tickets no issue with them either then got train to Nottingham and back to Leeds went Wetherspoons for another couple then got train home
