Any rights under National Rail Conditions of Travel for standard premium downgrade

Hi all, I'm posting to quickly ask something which i'm not too sure of

Yesterday I was onboard the 13:33 Glasgow Central to London Euston service, However the train developed a fault after Warrington and was cancelled at Stafford. We were then all instructed to board the following train, which was an 805 and had no standard premium accommodation, meaning we had to be downgraded back to standard. In short am I entitled to compensation due to this downgrade and if so which section of national rail conditions of travel should I quote in my complaint?

Thank you all in advance

It's not explicitly in the NRCoT but otherwise this is basic consumer law. If you write to Avanti they will refund the upgrade.

I wonder what the TM would say if I suggested they let me sit in First in this scenario but made it clear I wasn't interested in obtaining any complimentary food or drink. (Assuming seats were available)

I did consider, but I took a look and litterally all seats were taken so I didnt bother

I have sent an email in and hoping to get a refund for the difference I paid

I mean, they should if there's capacity.

If you book a mid-size car from Hertz and they don't have one, they give you the next class up, not the next class down. Because otherwise they'd owe you a partial refund.

You say that but almost every time I've rented a car (from multiple different companies) I am initially offered a worse/smaller car than I booked, only to be told I can get something larger if I pay extra.

It's pretty clear the staff behind the desk are on commission or have upsell targets to meet. Car rental firms are only slightly above politicians in terms of trustworthiness, in my book.

Now they usually back down once they realise I'm not going to accept that. But it's certainly a reason why I always take a screenshot of the cost of other categories when renting a car, and email it to myself as a reply to the booking confirmation, just in case they don't back down.
