North Wales Coast Express is 47804 and 47812 today. 44871 at Crewe Heritage Centre and 57012 went back to Carnforth last night.

Hello all, I was recently reading the North Eastern Locomotive Preservation Group’s newsletter, and I read the following:
“Apparently, West Coast Railways is waiting for a derogation from the Office of Road and Rail to allow WCR to use Mk.1 stock, whilst a programme of fitting central door locking is implemented. (This has already commenced.)”- taken from NELPG NEWS 353 June 2026

However Sunday’s Waverley is currently TBC steam, it is unknown if the ban will be lifted
UPDATE 15/07: The Railway Touring Company have advised that the trip will now be hauled by a class 37, as today’s Scarborough Spa Express was hauled by 37706, it may be hauled by 37706

Is it now state black? ie steam ban, does anyone know if 34028 got back to Southall, or was it taken off at York?

It got back, the only mainline tour that can be steam hauled is The Jacobite

44871 is currently been dragged back north today with 37706 & 37685 top n tailed. I saw/filmed it passing Wigan NW.

Is there a problem with 44871? as the route is planned for 40 Mph even if in light steam, surely as its not to be doing anything, ?
Lots of possible reasons for 40mph. Is it going tender first? Is it going without parts of it’s valve gear/con rods? Is something on it optimised for lower speed running on the West Highland? Other?
