I suspect the T3 will prove very very popular. 4 coaches max, I would guess?

Although, based on previous years, they'll do a mix of double heading it on full line 6 sets and sticking it on Pickering/Levisham shuttles. It seems a slight shame to do that rather than find a 4 set for it to work the whole line, but I can understand why.

Without being too speculative, I wonder whether anything from the NYMR might find its way to Swanage? I know Repton did a little while back.

I think it's 31466 and I believe also 47077 for tire turning.

I had read that it was Rail Adventure Class 43s - but not sure

Shouldn't be a lift of the steam ban because it is a popular locomotive, a fire risk is just that.
Might be just in steam and on display somewhere on the line probably Grosmont station. Unless we get some rainfall before it arrives none in the forecast.

Unfortunately this is the second consecutive year with a drought (or close to it) on the North York Moors

I know the Omaha was converted to oil partly to allow operation during times of drought.

There is not a lot the NYMR can do about this, but with changing weather patterns we seem to be getting far more extreme heat and drought.

I dont know what other parts of the country are like but the North York Moors are now tinder dry, there were some thunderstorms last month, but since then its been dry and hot. The question is how much rain is needed to reduce the fire risk to an acceptable level?

I should have been more specific: In Grosmont, there is a 55% chance of rain on Saturday and 70% on Sunday

Looking at more detailed meteorological models I dont think amounts over the weekend will be enough to reduce the fire risk. During next week there could be more showers, but also signals that yet another heatwave is on the way for the month end.

If the last few years are the new normal, and it seems like they are then preserved railway wishing to run steam engines are going to find themselves in a difficult position.

The NYMR are also in a worse position than some as the underlying peat on the moorland surrounding the railway is very susceptible to long burning difficult to extinguish fires, and access is difficult as well.

Lambton 29 was on what looked like Driver Experience yesterday from Grosmont to Pickering
So not a total steam ban. Just 4 other Diesels covering everything else into Pickering.

926 Repton has been requalified to run on the mainline to Whitby after running in, currently their only serviceable mainline qualified locomotive. Some of the teaks have been signed off to return to service today and with them, car no.79.
