To be allowed as a posting submission on this thread, in my opinion, it will have to be served by National Rail heavy-rail train services. Has anyone else any views on the matter?

Not only would I agree, Mayor Coppard's promo tour through the site passes a sign that says "Trams to Rotherham". Not trains. Not even tram trains. And it has different platform heights, so not a NR station.

When I was involved, we did refer to it as a "tram train station" rather than stop, because it's on Network Rail track; but I think people are referring to it as a (tram) stop now.

Tinsley Magna is but one new 'station' amongst many, many on the national network now. I say leave it in the list. Those who don't want it can ignore it, in just the same way that we ignore the threads on here that we don't want and read those we do. It's not like there's thousands of edge cases to wade through.

A minimum of 29 from my perusal of the rail atlas. Greater than that because Coventry very light rail doesn't list stops.

It's on my close watch list along with Cheadle (Stockport) and Waterbeach. Beam Park was due to open in May 2022, Cheadle in 2025 and Waterbeach in 2021.

East London’s new railway station – Beam Park finally approved after years of delays

After years of delays, East London’s Beam Park station has been given the final approval to go ahead, unlocking thousands of additional homes in the area.

Rather it has been confirmed that it can be accommodated on the network whilst funding is not yet confirmed.

An update from the Housing Secretary to speed up housing development in London covered a number of changes, but also confirmed that “a new Beam Park rail station could be accommodated within the existing rail network”

There are still some issues to iron out, as the delays have pushed up the costs of building the station above what the housing development was due to fund. The interested parties are now working to bridge the funding gap and get construction underway.

User Buttons0603 has been a busy boy indeed. The page was created as recently as 21 March 2026 and in the editing notes states:

So the page should be Magna Tram Stop, not Magna Railway Station. Very tempting to go in and do an edit.

The way I see it, if the likes of East Boldon aren’t seen as railway stations, neither is this!

And the.way I see it, if in the UK, an able-bodied person could join and alight from a vehicle without assistance anywhere en route, any designated stopping places (even if they have a raised platform) are stops, not stations.
Doesn’t work elsewhere (or indeed on our narrow gauge railways) where low platforms are/were the norm for railways.

The only passenger services on that route are late-evening ones used for driver refreshing in case of diversions (Masborough route closure, for example). Hence the tram-level platforms only.

Okay I think that's enough of the debate on Magna station/stop/halt/shack/pole/lamppost/etc and whether it should count as a new station or not. It is now open to service so is out with the scope of this thread. If anyone does want to discuss it's technical definition they are more than welcome to do so in a new suitably titled thread. They may wish to even quote some of the posts from this thread in the new one (simply press "+Quote" at the bottom right of any posts, then go and press the "Post thread" button, and then click on "Insert Quotes" which will appear at the bottom left of the text editor).

Apologies if this is the incorrect place, I couldn't find an open thread.

This is about Liverpool Baltic.

Mayor of the Liverpool City Region quoted:

"I'm disappointed every time we talk about this because I was so enthused about the plans that came forward and I wanted that to happen quickly, it's not happening as quickly as we wanted. "

Steve Rotheram says delays to the Liverpool Baltic scheme are "disappointing" and "the bane of my life".

This comes after the delay caused by a lack of contractors.

Officials previously stated they aimed to open the station by the end of 2027 but this is not now possible as a main construction contractor has not been appointed. Mayor of the Liverpool City Region Steve Rotherham has now said it is expected for the station to be delivered in 2029.

Planning Permission for Liverpool Baltic was granted in May 2026. Waterbeach (relocation) has had planning permission for quite some time. I just got round to noticing!
Haxby seems to be in permanent holding pattern following a holding direction from National Highways. A holding direction is basically 'we require more information before we can offer an opinion on the proposal'. It is up to the applicant to submit the required information or otherwise overcome the view of National Highways.

Does anyone know about this; is there a thread here which covers it please?
