seems to be working on 022 so hopefully
Are you certain that it's had the same treatment?

If the little fix with 019 works, will that be rolled out across the whole fleet now (presuming 019 has gone to Dalby to get a fix as was said)
I believe T19 is just at Old Dalby for some work specific to that unit, hence why it's been out of action for a good month

022 had work done on doors before leaving Aycliffe.

sobering statement - if I was involved with transition from EMR to GBR that is on the horizon I think I'd be urgently renegotiating this to prevent the embarrassment of GBR looking like it was to blame the moment it took over...
With contracts signed elsewhere there won't be any renegotiation. Government wouldn't authorise it.....

Ah ok, would make sense, they could theoretically make the same modifications that happened to 022 as well though right, I mean if they appear to be working on 022 and 019 needs work anyways, what's the harm in trying? Will be interesting to see how the unit will perform after it's visit to Old Dalby.

Based on the work that 020/021/022 and now 023 have had/getting done, I doubt that would be done at Old Dalby.

At Aycliffe they have special extractors used on the units and looks like private contractors.

I can imagine the earlier built units would return to Aycliffe for the work to be carried out.

ROCK RAIL EAST MIDLANDS PLC have posted their accounts for year ending 31/3/2026

https://find-and-update.company-inf...A1N2FkaXF6a2N4/document?format=pdf&download=0

Its a scanned document so salient points are

1. The manufacturing and supply agreement having previously been formerly varied in December 2023 was further amended in March 2026 to agree a new delivery programme.
2. 9 trains were accepted by Rock Rail at 31/3/26 - quite a difference to what EMR are diagraming
3. Hitachi handed over a further £19.2m in liquidated damages - add in £30.7m from previous years and thats £50m Hitachi have paid out.
4. The current lease ends in August 2027 - highly unlikely wont be extended of course as there really isnt any alternative even with current performance issues

I’m not suggesting government authorise it. I’m suggesting government actually lead it!

EMR have become a serious embarrassment in my view. I feel sorry for their staff having to work in these contexts.

Latest on hot weather cancellations is more of the same antics from them.

Interesting and thanks for analysis.

I wonder how much of that £50m makes it back to passengers? Eg reduced fares, compensation etc.

It doesn’t. It lines the pockets of the banks taking the “risk”.

It implies Rock Rail had by that point accepted 008/009, which are still not carrying passengers.

Around that time, I think EMR were therefore diagramming 3 to 4 out of 7 which seems reasonable.

It's now more like 6 from 12 (in terms of what is visible on Rail Record). But that 12 includes 008/009 and the damaged train.

EMR have become a serious embarrassment in my view.
In your view. However, the wheels falling off at EMR does not seem to have the same impact of trouble at Avanti, GWR, Thameslink or TPE.

My Googling suggests the media have taken EMR's explanation at face value (and it is obviously more true for Regional)

I'm not seeing influential politicians castigating the latest problems at EMR (Neil O'Brien is not - in my opinion - influential).

Yes, I stated in my view, because that's is indeed all it is - but I feel it is shared by many people I know personally who use the route and are just members of the travelling public and aren't interested in the rest of it - they just want to turn up, buy a ticket and get where there want to go on time and in reasonable comfort without cancellation.

The east midlands is not peppered with especially influential MPs I suspect (previously influential ones like Ken Clarke, Patrick McLoughlin, Margaret Beckett have retired / or would not be in party of govt anyway) and / or they are so long term used to the poor status of the MML they don't really realise that things should be much better

Dont forget our former Transport Minister Louise Haigh, Clive Betts, David Blunket and quite a few more are unimpressed but probably feel somewhat powerless to change things. There is no money longer term and there's precious little they can do to fix the technical issues currently bedevilling EMR.

We do share this view! It's clear a lot of people are fed up. I'm supposed to be essential travelling with EMR tomorrow and I realise that - at minimum - I'm going to have to look at the state of things early tomorrow to judge whether they can be relied on to run the services I want to catch.

Liz Kendall is one of the Leicester MPs, but she's in the cabinet. Lilian Greenwood is the MP for Nottingham South, but is part of the DfT ministerial team so the chances of either of them making a fuss to try and improve things for their constituents are slim.

Good points.

I'm hoping if Andy Burnham is serious about real devolution he can come up with a funding formula that can stop the on-off nonsense about HS2, MML electrification and all the rest of it - otherwise his rhetoric will inevitably get called out - even tho I accept he needs a 10 year period to get that going.

810013 forming 1B55 1350 Nottingham to St Pancras International was 35 down arriving at Market Harborough and 60 down arriving at Kettering. There's nothing ahead of it, I wonder if the unit is struggling or if there are heat related speed restrictions?

Caught that one out of Notts, all seemed normal upon departure, however did notice a Hitachi tech on board, same with 810011 on 1B69 today which I’m waiting on, so wonder if they’re expecting issues with the heat (011 also arrived 20L on 1D43 into Notts, as a side note)

Hitachi technicians have been onboard most 810 services since introduction

Good to hear, still only the 1 222 gone since 001-005 left, wonder if more will go to make way for these new units then as I’m sure etches will start filling up when these get sent out. Which 810(s) are on the mileage accumulation at the moment?

017 was in the test track today, its front ended looks filthy indicating to me that's been on mainline testing.

Unsure what else has been out lately.

810016 had engine troubles today.

After switching off electric onto diesel, it started load shedding. We spent a good 13 mins at Leicester restarting engines before setting off again in limp mode.

Crossed to slows at Loughborough, and sat on the slows for about 20 mins before crawling to East Mids Parkway where everyone was turfed off.

No AC for an hour or so wasn't great, but staff were helpful by the time we got to the station and into the fresh air.

Who in turn pay compensation to their customer for being unable to provide a contracted train. Their customer has to pay leases for the older stock until it is replaced, and perhaps also had to compensate ScotRail for the late delivery of 222s (effectively, via the owner leasing company of the 222s).

This isn't some get rich quick scheme because Hitachi didn't deliver. Liquidated damages are set higher to drive suppliers to deliver but do often net off to a large extent by the rest of the chain..

The engines shutting down were nothing to do with the engines? Ok.....
Not necessarily, if cooling system isn't up to scratch engine will shut down as overheating but that's not caused by an engine problem per se.
