These oldies don't like the hot weather though l don't blame them. Yesterday 57311 failed at Chester with 37521 coming to the rescue.
Though running out of fuel not a good thing for LSL didn't think a professional outfit like that would allow to happen.

Funny how it’s all the newer locos that LSL own, all the 57s etc

Could it have been doing work originally planned for the demic 57 (such as leading the northbound working vice tailing), therefore running down its fuel miles faster than planned? Did it actually run out of fuel? Or was it swapped out in anticipation?

20118/132/47712 swapped out for 57302 and 47810.

Other way around. 20s may run the ECS tomorrow unless it’s decided the 47s top speed will be better for the ECS.

47712 was leading from Shrewsbury

Indeed, 47 on the front and 20s on the rear.

It’s also a nice little return to South Devon for 118 having spent many a happy time just up the line in Buckfastleigh / Totnes.

Makes no difference. The trains max speed is the slowest vehicle’s speed which is the class 20s and (presumably) 75 mph. With the 4 and a half’s trait of self-draining coolant tanks, it could be an own goal to switch them.

47712 showing allocated to 5Z65 on RTT so there's a chance it's run around.

Edit: 20118 + 20132 now showing on RTT so guess we'll have to wait and see which way around they are when they leave

45118 leads the slightly delayed "Three Peaks Challenge By Rail", 1Z32 1851 Crewe to Bangor on a warm and sunny Thursday, 25 June 2026. 57311 was on the rear and will take the train on its next leg the following morning.

LSL ran a fabulous class 20 tour yesterday, Sat 4/7, on Mark 1s (commiserations to anyone who was on the wretched mk3s to Worksop) shoving a lightly simmering tea pot over Shap and Ais Gill.

It’s well worth hunting down videos of this for some excellent noise.

It looked very interesting with 60532, the green class 20s, the mk1s and the green 47 on the rear

Any idea what this is? Goes through some obscure lines that hardly ever get railtours etc like bathgate
