Hopefully 1W11 is a Mk4

Was hot driving back from Heathrow today, but nothing like the heatwave of two weeks ago.

I have a first class ticket on 1V62 on Thursday, but I suppose that is going to be a refund job.

Sure enough the Mk4 is not on 1W11. At least the 197s work despite being hamstrung with Chester being too small.

I am glad I board far enough south.

197s & Work !
The 197 fleet is on its knees currently.
The MK4’s are having to be kept in traffic in temperatures that exceeded there aircon recommendations because the unit fleet can’t cover.

It was 1W13 loco that failed but
They have used 1W11 loco & set to replace it, so you can have your 197 ;)

They are being maintained in a depot that cannot cope. I accept people want to celebrate their ECML reject junk, but if there was enough depot space for the number of 197s in service the picture would be much better.

So yes, those 197s.

As you say, the Mk4s cannot even cope with a bit of heat. The 197 might not have been big enough to cover, but it worked perfectly and was a lovely temperature despite being overloaded.

I am sure the passengers who get left behind love being talked about as stupid for preferring 197s and actually thinking the train company should provide trains.

Not using W11 till the 21st thankfully, so hopefully when the temperatures aren't being silly for a change! Though I am booked on V42 in 1st with a friend next Wednesday... fingers crossed there will be a chef onboard. If not though, oh well. ;)

Firstly, as @37052 xb mr said, this page is about 67s+Mk4s... not about 197s. Secondly, 197s have their own extensive list of problems, which is clearly evident when there are only 48 197s (30 /0s, 18 /1s) in service today, leading to 150s and 153s covering all of today's Cardiff–Cheltenham services. So, compared to the 197s, I'd say the 67s+Mk4s are coping rather well in comparison!

They certainly are. Another 197 has just failed by overheating at Hereford and required assistance.

The Mk4s will have a full set of diagrams over the next few days while the 197s are having their diagrams reduced to help keep the fleet going.

I'm currently on a 2 car 197 vice a MK4. Stood from Crewe got a seat at Nantwich. Got the northern train from Stockport to Crewe as I knew I'd be standing and thought a better chance of boarding and getting a seat at Crewe

I intended being an hour before this on.a 5 car 197. But my train from Sheffield was delayed and it was missed.

I wouldn't say the MK4 are coping well seeing as 1 out of 5 today didn't run. And seeing how many people are standing on this train as a result of it being a 197 covering for a MK4.

The Mk4s had one diagram missing due to 67013’s oil leak, but every other 67+Mk4 diagram ran, and it'll be back to the full 5 diagrams tomorrow. So on a fleet level, the 67+Mk4s are coping better than the 197s at the moment – even with you having to deal with a 197 vice 67+Mk4.

Oh and another thing... 67025+HD07 is covering 1J76, which was supposed to be 197009.
