There have certainly been days since then when more than 48 units have been out (there were 49 on Tuesday, and 48 yesterday), but there were several diagrams with unit swaps during the day.

Indeed there has, but never simultaneously as many as their booked number of diagrams required.

Positive experience on a 701 yesterday, specifically 701047.

The air conditioning thermostat change has made a significant positive difference, and the temperature is much more pleasant than previously.

Both toilets were working despite the unit being out all day, which suggests that water tank refill infrastructure has been improved.

I've noticed fewer toilets out of use. I contacted SWR about the toilet issue a few weeks and they says they were shortly going to be able to fill the tanks more frequently, so it appears that's now happening.

That’s good to hear.

Have you noticed a difference in the air conditioning?

There was a big discussion I was involved in a few weeks ago about the water browser situation, recently there is a browser that usually can be found on platforms 1-6. So that’s definitely helping. The air-con situation is also something that is being attended to and should continue to improve as well as depots and its staff learn better how to fine-tune the trains.

It's going to be there for a while. Replacement loco was planned to coming down today to shunt broken loco and take 701/5 and the other 93 to Derby. Could be delayed.

Does anyone know which 701/5 is with the 93s?
TIA

Looks to be another move from Bicester to Wimbledon on Tuesday 07th July. Couple of 0V71 moves have been put in but nothing for the drag yet.

Thanks for the 701/5 info - and the advance info too.

I have only spotted the Light Loco 0V71 from Wimbledon on Tuesday 07/07/2026. I assume perhaps the other 0V71 might be a light class 93 loco from Derby/Crewe - it might have even gone earlier than tomorrow so as to make sure the brakes etc on the 701 want to play ball.

My assumption is that 93005 is not yet fit to move from Clapham/Wimbledon after its brush with trees but that 93001 can go from Wimbledon. I am assuming all 701 moves from require top and tailing from Bicester to cater for the reversal(s) en route.

Of course it might be that the light loco 0V71 from Wimbledon is a pair of 93s if 93005 has been sorted out. Was it damage or just part of a tree sticking out (so out of gauge) ?.

Either way, until two 93s end up at Bicester I am not sure another 701/5 can be delivered.

Just to add that Ov71, 37501 and 37510 came down to Bicester from Derby earlier today, there might be another plan…

701509 (I think) and definitely 701512 on their way from Farnham to Wimbledon park.

I note however that the only move out of Bicester for tomorrow is a light engine move to Bletchley TMD.
Nothing showing as yet to Wimbledon.
That Bicester to Bletchley TMD move (0Z70)
Is now accompanied by :-
A subsequent light loco move 0Z71 back to Bicester from Bletchley.

There is still the 0V71 Wimbledon to Bicester later on.

I wonder if the below is a making space move for the next delivery :-
Something moved on 5Q01 0724 Wimbledon Park Depot Sdgs to Clapham Yard Sidings this morning....

Either way it does not look like a delivery as soon as today of one or two extra 701/5s, or the rest of the week.
No big deal as I feel a path will not go in the system until the units have been persuaded to talk to the loco(s).
Expensive having these locos hanging around at Bicester at the whim of a 701 !.

Shepperton has to be one of the worst routes to put 450s on. There's obviously a reason why they have to, but still.

So v roughly, 9 'cleared for service' 701s aren't available today?

Correct. The 9 absentees this morning were 701005,014,016,019,022,031,038,057,059. Of which 701022 & 701038 have appeared on evening peak trains, but 701036 that was out this morning has not appeared this evening. The three 8v10 all day diagrams are unchanged, so that still leaves a shortfall of 1 which currently is a cancelled Kingston loop diagram (1257/1430/1557). The 1730 is not yet shown as cancelled, but nothing is allocated to it and there does not look to be anything en-route to Waterloo to form it.

The second I hit post, 2O51 came up as cancelled on darwin console which was no real surprise.

Why can the 701/5 (in pairs) still not be put into passenger service? They are five years old! How hard can it be to drive an identical train that just happens to split in two? Even though you never have to. The British really are unique aren't they?

They had to be splittable for the overnight depot stabling plans. If not essential they’d probably all have been built ten car in the first place.

Why can the 701/5 (in pairs) still not be put into passenger service? They are five years old! How hard can it be to drive an identical train that just happens to split in two? Even though you never have to. The British really are unique aren't they?
There are differences such as having two compressors on double units.

Also, all sorts of electrical systems will need to be connected, and crew will need to verify the safety of these connections.

Other things will be different such as the guard not being able to walk though.

And then comes the matter of actually uncoupling e.g. in an emergency.

It will take a conversion course for crews to be competent on the 5 cars.

Notwithstanding the fact that the individual units require preperation for service and fault free running / testing.

Indeed. Better to focus on the 701s already in service (or have been) rather than adding more new units to the fleet with teething problems.
