Please help me respond to GTR letter

Thought I had a valid ticket stored, couldn't find it in app, made the poor decision to just buy a short fare as there hadn't been an inspector on train. Cue getting pulled up at gates when ticket didn't scan properly; staff scanned it manually and discovered purchase time didn't track. Panicked and made a bunch of excuses, refused to admit to anything which made him more irate, got a witness statement taken. Sad times. Super not worth it.

Notice to prosecute arrived a few days ago; I have tried to do my research and have drafted a letter. I would be very grateful if someone could check it over before I send. You guys are absolute angels.

Alleged offence: you on [date], at London Blackfriars (BFR), in any area not designated as a compulsory ticket area, entered a train for the purpose of travelling on the railway, did not carry a valid ticket entitling travel.

Dear Prosecutions Team,

I am writing in prompt response to the Notice of Intention to Prosecute regarding an incident on [date].

First and foremost, I wish to offer my sincere apologies for entering a train without a valid ticket. I fully accept that it is my absolute responsibility as a passenger to hold a valid ticket before boarding, and I am very sorry for failing to meet this obligation.

To provide context to the staff member's report, I boarded the train in full confidence that I had a valid ticket stored on my mobile device. It was only upon arriving at my destination that I realised the ticket was completely missing from my app. I am incredibly distressed by my own poor judgement.

I have a completely clean record and a criminal conviction would have an overwhelmingly disproportionate and devastating impact on my employment, and future prospects. Therefore, I would be incredibly grateful if you would consider resolving this matter administratively outside of court. I am fully prepared to pay the retail cost of the outstanding train fare immediately, alongside any reasonable administrative and investigation costs GTR has incurred.

Thank you very much for your time, patience, and for considering this request.

Yours sincerely,

Quokka

If they audit your purchases will they find a Brighton to Preston Park ticket for that date?

I'm pretty sure they will, I'm trying to find the ticket now but I never made an account on the app (trainpal) and it seems the purchase history only goes back so far.

I imagine they'll find some sus history. My home station is preston park and I've definitely taken advantage - never travelling without a valid ticket but I'm sure they know all the tricks. Obviously not worth it... Too late to regret though. Just trying to get out of this without a conviction now.

Ok I've been able to find the old emails. I stay at various locations up and down the line, it's genuinely hard to keep track of tickets. I did not actually have a valid ticket that day :frown:

Only one from gatwick to blackfriars

Which was purchased (end of a return) some time before the incident.
