Will the 810 involved in the Bedford crash be repaired or partly replaced?

My source within the factory stated that 810002 was discovered to have very bad welds on several carriages and they were indeed building replied it.

How true that is I do not know.

But no one will publicly say where the original 002 is, whether Italy or UK.
Thanks for the update - much appreciated. I wonder if the replacement set would be numbered 002 or, supposing replacement sets cannot take the same number as a previously built set, it would have to be designated 034?

There has a 158 that had an accident near Stockport while the production line was still in use, they replaced it by building a new shell. So the precedence is set. Perhaps they could build another couple of complete sets as compensation for how late the whole class is - one for another thread.

Technically 002 could be rebuilt and have same number, as Hitachi still had possession of the unit and it has never been registered/delivered to the operator.

They've lost a set?
They have not lost a set, but no one will
Confirm where 810002 is.

Last seen on low loaders by myself several years ago on route to Italy for climate testing and has never been seen since.

That idea was debunked ages ago on RF and, IIRC, in the rail media (possibly Modern Railways) too.

Would the majority of it not just be body work though, maybe replace the cab frame with new panels, surely not the need for a whole new driving end to be made?
from the news pictures the body shell looked distorted by the passenger door, my guess the chassis will not be good.

Ah okay, haven't paid much attention to the construction of these as IEPs don't really interest me.

Curious.

In the politest way possible.

How do you know this?
Judging off the pictures I’ve seen (I admit, not seen much of the interior, however have seen a lot of the outside of the train), the majority of the seating area didn’t seem to have any damage, no crumples or anything, looks about right, just the area about up to the passenger door. Also going off what has been mentioned in other forums by other people, and what has been said in news articles.

Ditto.

The Grayrigg Pendolino was written off - even though it probably had a more gentle declaration compared to this heavy rear shunt. At the time I seem to remember hearing that not only do you need to repair, the repairer has to be able to ceritfy the insurer, the operator, and everyone else, that the repaired train has the integrity of an original one. With a collision like this one, I can't see that.

It's only been a week...
Exactly! The recovered coaches have not all reached the recovery destination as yet.

As for FOI Request, good look with Hitachi. They are a private company so FOI are pointless for them.

would anyone happen to know where the 810 was sent to be examined, last I know was that it was on the back of many lorries and being carted away from the crash site.

Also presuming the facility that it (and probably the 360) have been sent to will assess the damage and seem it to be repaired or replaced and also will get all the technical info out both trains to aid with the investigation.

Don't think it's confirmed where they are off to, but firstly it will be purely RAIB as they will have lots of work to do.

Only then will they be handed back to each TOC/ROSCO for them to then get them moved somewhere and for themselves to assess them.

Sceptical as to whether EMR know where 002 is at the moment either
They actually don't. As quite simply they don't need to know......yet.
They will have a delivery schedule and even if hitachi keep flexing the date. They do not need to know its location.

A senior member of the fleet introduction team certainly does not its location.

Let's assume at least part of 015 is a write off, with the production of the 810s nearing it's end, realistically, how long do EMR and whoever the ROSCO is have to make a decision to order a replacement before the production line shuts down?

i was asking about the location of 002

You didn't say that, so I assumed you were talking about 015 as that is what the thread is about.

So long as Hitachi don't chuck the jigs and stuff away (and they probably won't now this guy's happened) it shouldn't be too difficult to restart if necessary.

Might be a bit more difficult if they start building another order (I believe they have one, can’t quite pick out what though)

Likewise 66554 was built as the replacement for 66521, written off at Great Heck.

They've got stuff for GC and Lumo to do, haven't they? Another 810 from scratch after that wouldn't be too hard. They wouldn't need to start building it tomorrow...

Ah yes that’s right, thanks. If they start building those would it make it harder for them to fire up the 810s again? Presuming they’d rather get those going than having to make more 810s

This makes sense, however if the other 4 coaches are deemed to be in good condition I imagine it will be possible to certify it with just the new driving car?

Also the class 350s involved in the Watford collision, I believe they were repaired and placed back into service after re certification

Were the 158s that collided along the Cambrian Coast ever fixed up, that could be another good comparison?

Apparently two of those Pendolino coaches ended up in Crewe for training purposes - the rest scrapped.
