Correct - the Can was named after Grand National winner Aldaniti, and of course the Finsbury Park Deltics were named after racehorses.

The BR standard steam locos were built at different locations and ordered in batches.
Following the publication of the modernisation plan, one batch that had already been ordered was cancelled. Frames had been laid for the first loco in this batch.
What was the proposed number for this loco?

As it turns out, I am an idiot and the name was never actually carried by a B1 (I had mashed two B1 names together in my head...)
However, the name was carried by a Class 43 'Warship' (in reference to the warship that carried the same name as the boat I am thinking of)

The latter had various competitors on cross-Channel services.
One of these had an asset that operated from Kent to Calais between 1969 and 1981. This shared its name with a class 43. What was the shared name?
As a further clue it (not the Warship) was named by Mary Wilson (wife of Harold).
