There were loads on platforms at Pelaw and Sunderland, was a fight for the front seat back from South Hylton, I didn’t go for it because I had it going, only fair to let someone else have it

4020 is meant to be going into preservation on June 29th.

After that, I've been reliably informed that the next scrap moves won't be until August.

Thanks yes I'd seen words to that effect. It's quite peculiar phraseology isn't it? You can read it in a glass half full or half empty way...

Something similar happened with the Class 445s on the South Western, they had a farewell and an ‘end date’ but with the caveat they may remain in service to cover gaps, they officially withdrew 3 months later.
I would say the possibility is going to be very slim, more so from a publicity standpoint, however, it will depend on fleets availability and it’s entirely possible one will sneak out onto the network.

Somebody, might have been Kim McGuinness with minders, got on at South Gosforth and were interviewed by BBC Look North on the way to Airport.

Anybody boarding T161 was offered a commemorative ticket, fridge magnet, key ring and a Metrocar newsletter. For an organisation that has always seemed leery of enthusiasts, thought this was at least in the spirit of the week. Suffice to say, fair number of enthusiasts about and the front seats were always taken. Special mention to a couple of guys who were in Tyneside to see freight, thought the 599's were all gone and copped their first 599 on the last guaranteed week.

Have to say, Nexus have handled this all rather well, and there don’t seem to have been any postings regarding enthusiasts being bothered by staff for taking photos, which has been an issue on the metro system in the past. It has also been good that they have kept the public well informed as to what’s going on, from the depot redevelopment to the sad scenes of the old metrocars being scrapped.

These new hauliers don't go via the Tyne Tunnel because apparently their trailer is too long for it. I'm not sure on the exact route, though. Goes past Metrocentre & Angle of the North on A1 now

Hello everyone, would anyone be able to help me with which units I saw at South Gosforth Depot around 12:00 today please? Got 4041/4068, MA60, and 97903, would anyone know what else was there at the time please?

T161 was swapped to 4041+4068 after the original pair were graffitied whilst in Stonyhurst sidings.

4078+4081 are out on T133 replacing a broken 555.

And going by the message on the Sort out the metro page, looks like 4078/81 has broken down so will need replacing.

Hopefully metro will be able to have a metrocar set for Friday!

I hope nobody from this forum was at Regent Centre earlier today. Nexus really let themselves down: some horrible conduct from the CSAs who clearly had a very negative opinion about enthusiasts. Apparently a Sony FDR-AX53 constitutes "professional photographic equipment".

I hope nobody from this forum was at Regent Centre earlier today. Nexus really let themselves down: some horrible conduct from the CSAs who clearly had a very negative opinion about enthusiasts. Apparently a Sony FDR-AX53 constitutes "professional photographic equipment".

CSAs are always obliged to share their "TW numbers" (basically the ID number) for future instances should you wish to make a complaint.

Unfortunately its a very mixed bag where some staff were trained to leave enthusiasts well alone and others were told photography is the root of all evils. Of course also comes down to personal attitude as well.

I've always been rather fond of it since it's the only named one that I know of, with the placard for Harry Cowans. Seems to me it would be a shame for it to end up in the scrap heap (but I feel that way about all of them, sentimental as I am!).

I was always under the impression that Nexus were rather hostile towards photographers. They used to have a policy stating that while they welcomed "family snaps" on the system, enthusiasts weren't welcome without explicit permission from control. I understand that that policy has been changed, but I guess some CSAs haven't got the memo.

I've probably taken thousands of pictures and videos on the metro, but I didn't have bother until yesterday. They truly outdid themselves yesterday, and it made me realise why so many enthusiasts are critical of their handling of spotters.

Any particularly egregious issues please do send a PM - though that context pretty much tells me exactly who it is as well (and such behaviour wasn't/isn't specific to enthusiasts either if I'm correct).

I'm hoping to be out tomorrow afternoon to say one last farewell after many years with these trains, both travelling on them and previously timetabling them.

The aforementioned Class 445 is a typo for the Class 455s.
