It was definitely time and onboard conditions that increased the risks. The onboard staff were in control and this mitigated this, but eventually patience ran out. RDG guidance states that an uncontrolled evacuation risk increases significantly after 90 mins.Thanks for the info. I wonder too whether proximity to a station led to concerns about self-evacuation if the doors were opened, even with the barriers in place.
Sympathies for your ordeal BTW.
I suggest most on board never knew who close Knebworth was and if they did, the uncontrolled evacuation onto a 100mph line would have happened sooner.
