Project Oval charge - help me understand it…

So yesterday me and my other half went to the theatre in London, from Chelmsford. I have a PRIV but he decided to try the new contactless/project oval.

So he tapped in at Chelmsford, out at Liverpool Street, in at Liverpool Street tube, and out at Tottenham Ct Road. On the return he tapped in at Embankment, we went northern line/Elizabeth Line to Stratford and then GA to Chelmsford so he didn’t tap out till Chelmsford.

The charge for it all today is £25.60; which is cheaper than an off peak return to London without any tube travel.

Is there a way to see a breakdown? I’m just curious how it’s all calculated really!

You can see the breakdown if you go to contactless.tfl.gov.uk

7-days worth of journey history can be seen without an account. If you have an account I think it's 12 months.

We can’t seem to do this as he used Apple Pay which has an encrypted card number or some such o_O

For straightforward journeys such as an out-and-back return it's very simple: the TfL single fare finder will show you. https://tfl.gov.uk/fares/find-fares/single-fare-finder

In this case, Chelmsford to Tottenham Court Road is:
Peak : £19.10 Monday to Friday from 0630 to 0930.
Off Peak: £12.80 At all other times including public holidays.

And Embankment to Chelmsford is:
Peak: £19.10 Monday to Friday from 0630 to 0930 and from 1600 to 1900.

Off Peak: £12.80 At all other times including public holidays.

If you start hitting caps then it is a lot more complicated.
