Camdean: Councillor happy that 7 bus is to return in evening
IN a welcome move the number 7 bus will return to evening service in an area of Rosyth.
Last June, the service, which connects Dunfermline Bus Station to Leven via Dalgety Bay, Aberdour, Burntisland and Kirkcaldy, was changed to cut out Camdean after 6pm.
At the time, Stagecoach said the alteration was due to "changes to school contracts, congestion and ongoing roadworks in the Kingdom", but later added that pavement parking was also an issue due to narrowing roads.
When the decision was due to be made last year, Rosyth councillor Andy Jackson spoke to The Press about his concerns.
He said: "We used to have the number 19, but that’s been cut back over the years. This isn’t going to serve the people of Fife.
“What about people with disabilities or those who don’t drive? They’d have to walk to the main road in Rosyth. The day doesn’t end at 6pm.”
After discussions with the bus company, Cllr Jackson was happy to confirm that the service was set to return from August.
On Facebook he wrote: "I have been informed this morning by Stagecoach that they have started the process of informing Fife Council of their intention to restore the evening bus service through Camdean, Rosyth from August 17.
"I have been leading this campaign since it was withdrawn, and this is a very welcome development.
"The people of Camdean have not had a bus service after 6pm since last August, leaving residents who rely on the service without one.
"Public transport is an essential service for everyone, particularly those who face social isolation.
"My thanks to Stagecoach for reconsidering their position as well as my ward councillor Brian Goodall for his support and the local MSP David Barratt."
